Depending on how the campaign is set up, only certain roles may be able to edit a page and set extra fields. Even with these settings, certain pages may still be locked to specific players.

Besides an image and synopsis, it is possible to add extra data to a page, which will appear in the Info Box to the right. Some extra fields are automatically added when using /c/nybn/help/wiki/using_schemasschemas, but you can also add your own fields and data.

Data listed in extra fields is available in the automatic Index for different schemas, and can be used for filtering when creating a list of things. It might also simply be useful information for players, displayed in a concise manner in the Info Box.

In general, you want to limit the number of extra fields to the most essential ones, and only add them if you want to filter lists by the information in the field.

How to add extra fields

To add extra fields, you have to open the edit page. At the bottom of the info box on the right, a header for Extra fields allows you to add text fields or reference fields (see image).

Each entry consists of a paired name and value. When adding a new entry, the name field is editable - once you set a name, the field name is locked to prevent accidentally overriding it instead of the value, but you can still edit it by pressing the Change button.

Text Field

If you selected to add a text field (marked with a ), you can write formatted text in the field. This is also useful for numbers as you can display them in the notation of your choice including dot notation.

Good examples for text fields might be the Totem Animal for specific tribes, the power rating of specific magical sites or the rank of a military officer. Note how in each case, the field is generic to a subgroup of the schema (i.e. tribes instead of all factions, magic sites instead of all sites, military officers instead of all people).

Reference Field

If you selected to add a reference field (marked with a ), you can add a link to another page, which can be autocompleted for you by the site. This is useful to formalize relations between pages.

Good examples for reference fields might be the employer of a servant, the haunt of a ghost bound to the location or the patron saint of a holy order - presuming the saint has his own wiki page. As with the text field, each field is generic to a subgroup of the schema (employers for servants, haunts for ghosts, patron saints for holy orders).

Tips & Tricks

• Extra fields are a convenient way to help in navigation. Listing important relations like a spouse or father is very useful. Don't overdo it though: if you need more than two extra fields, its probably best to add a separate information section in the main page instead

• If you find yourself using an extra field in almost all instances of a specific schema (like adding Age for each Person or map coordinates to Locations), it may be best to include the field in the Schema instead.
• Don't use extra field for game statistics - use the character sheet instead to prevent having to do double bookkeeping on the sheet and character page

Did you know: if you remove a field from a schema, any pages that had values for the field will automatically convert the data to extra fields so your information is not lost.
