Miners in the Ducleron System have lost contact with a mostly automated mining facility on a large asteroid, and two rescue missions have failed to check in.

Since the Jedi recently provided rescue in this system recently, the miners have asked the Jedi Order to send someone to investigate what is going on and, if possible, help to rescue any survivors of the original mining operation or any of the rescue attempts.

This is a mission for up to three Jedi Padawans or Initiates and is meant as a proper mission. It may involve combat and 1337 haxing. It is recommended at least one Padawan have the Pilot skill, though this is not a major part of the mission.

Though the mission continues from foundations of an earlier story, it is an entirely independent mission, and having participated in the Fetching Padawan mission is not required.

I am aiming to post once a week on Wednesday.

Padawan Avitus eagerly reported for the search and rescue mission, spotting a chance to really get out there and help against danger. Though he would have to admit he knew neither computer hacking or how to pilot space ships.

Padawan Kial Valian showed up in her usual punctual manner. It seemed her adventure in the Ducleron System last time, had more to it. It was only natural to join the mission for her. In addition her combat and system operation skills seemed appropriate.

When she saw someone already here, she gave Padawan Avitus a polite nod.

"Padawan Arvini."

After having finished his conversation with Padawan Macuy and Denari, who were heading down to explore the hidden passage underneath the temple, Master Crular joined the two Padawans in the Temple Hangar.

"It seems there was a small complication..." the Jedi Master explained once he had greeted the two Padawan. "Neither of you have training as a pilot."

"Fortunately, Padawan Aava is heading roughly in that direction on a mission of her own. She will take a detour and fly you to the Ducleron System in the Alula while she heads on to handle a different matter. A mining vessel there will take you the rest of the way within the system - that should also be a good opportunity to get the latest information locally." he explained

Before you fly off, I will need a list of equipment you are taking on this mission. Keep in mind that you need to share any equipment packs you take with the other mission.

"Understood Master. We will report to the Alula for immediate departure as soon as we have gathered the rest of our equipment."

Kial gave a respectful bow to Master Crular, then looked toward Avitus.

"We should probably bring at least one medkit, preferably the Bacta Medkit. Can you think of anything else we may need aside from the basics?"

She waited for Avitus' reply.

I suggest we use keep an eye out for the other missions at the start for when equipment is distributed and then quickly discuss it either IC or OOC when multiple missions want the same item.

I would like to take the: Bacta Medkit

"Very fortunate, then we will be able to talk to the locals on the way."

Avitus gave a nod to padawan Kial, to acknowledge his presence.

"These miners have been severed from communication for a long time, and might be in dire need of food. Or the mission might stretch for a longer time in order to perform the search, so I will take the Recyclable Emergency Survival Kit."

If no further issues were raised, Avitus would be ready to depart.

(( The others appear to be taking the other medkit, which is fine. I'll bring the Recyclable Emergency Survival Kit. ))

Avitus and Kial both made their way to the Alula where Padawan Aava was already waiting for them, and once their supplies had been loaded up, the Alula took off.

You have been provided with the Bacta Medkit and the Recyclable Emergency Survival Kit. The latter has been packed with some extra food as well, just in case.

The trip to the Ducleron system was relatively uneventful, though getting through the systems Oort Cloud was a bit of a hassle. Luckily, Aava had experience adjusting the ships sensors, and between that and her piloting skills, the ship managed to make its way through - she had clearly done this before.

Once they had cleared the Oort Cloud, the Alula docked with the Rustbucket II, an old and somewhat rusty mining barge which seemed like it probably didn't fully live up to the legal safety requirements. Even so, the modifications that had been made to the vessel looked like they had been made by someone who knew what they were doing, all in an effort to optimize its function as a mining vessel no doubt.

The airlock seemed to work fine too, and Kial and Avitus made their way inside safely. The inside of the ship was rusty as well, but surprisingly clean despite the affected iron.

As Aava took the Alula off on her own mission, the other two Padawans were joined by the ships captain, a tough looking Zabrak man.

"Welcome to the Rustbucket Jedi, and thank you for coming to our aid. I am Captain Herder, and thi..."

He was interrupted as a familiar voice pierced Kial's ears

"Blue girl!"

I moved us ahead some here, though feel free to rewind slightly if you were planning to do something else before departing.

A small smile appeared on Kials face when she heard the familiar voice. She looked for the source and gave a small nod once she found it. Then she turned back to the captain.

"My apologies for the interruption, captain. It seems one of your crewmembers helped me rescue a number of people during the incident with the station in this system. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Padawan Kial Valian of the Jedi Order. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Kial gave a small bow at the last sentence. She waited for a moment to give Avitus the opportunity to introduce himself.

Avitus noticed the captain getting interrupted by the a person familiar to Kial, and wondered if this would continue for the entirety of the mission.

"I am Padawan Avitus of the Arvini family. It seems Kial already knows many faces on this station."

Avitus restrained himself from cutting of the conversation early, feeling Kial should be given some time to settle the acquaintance.

Kial didn't really like Avitus addressing her by her first name only. But decided to ignore it for now. Never the less, she turned towards him.

"This is a ship, Padawan Arvini, not a station. Misspeaking like that can lead to dangerous scenarios through miscommunication. Please take care when communicating on missions."

Kials tone was advisory, not reprimanding. She then turned back to the captain.

"My apologies again, captain. We would like to get underway as soon as possible. Might I ask we skip further pleasantries and get to the task at hand?"

"Blue girl is pretty strict" the handsome young man winked to Avitus "but she means well. I'm Zane! I got my certification at the same time as her." he explained.

"We lost contact with the XR-17-E mining operation." The captain interjected, getting straight to the task at hand as they walked towards the ships bridge along the rusty hallways, the occasional light along the hallway blinking on and off.

"It is a mostly automated facility which appears to have malfunctioned, and rescue efforts trying to reach the crew have failed to report in. Original crew of 12, plus 5 rescuers for a total of 17 people." the captain continued. "Saving the facility itself is the highest priority for corporate... but between you and me, I don't give a damn about the machines, so long as everyone still alive is returned home safely."

"We aren't sure what happened there to cause them to lose contact, but we can tell there is some sort of interference on the station. This entire system is rife with that, so it could very well just be from the mining operation hitting something.

However, it isn't -just- a messed up radio signal - if it were, the rescue crews would have returned by now."

The Jedi arrived at the ships bridge, which was a patchwork of replaced controls, rusty furnishings and various cables patched to the walls to connect the retrofitted equipment to the ships systems. Despite being old, the bridge seemed organized, so it wasn't as chaotic as it might appear at first glance. Unfortunately, neither of the Jedi were ship mechanics so that was all they were able to make out.

"I was thinking we'd drop you off on the station and park at a short distance, leave you a signal flare or something to call us back when you need to evacuate or when you found something." The captain suggested "That is presuming the radio doesn't work. However, if you have a different plan, we'll take your lead."

Avitus looked dismissively at the rough and patched up bridge of the spaceship, functional but dirty and old as it was.

"We will try to get your people back captain, and indeed for that we will first need to get on to the station. Is there a main enterance airlock?

The radios will probably not work, so some sort of signal would be appreciated.

Do ensure your own safety whilst hovering near the station, the rescue teams were also lost."

During Kials naval training she had seen enough ships to know a well maintained ship when she saw one. She suspected the ship was old, which added to how properly the ship was cared for. Even ships fresh of the line didn't last long without continuous maintenance.

That was not what was occupying her mind though.

"I'd prefer it if you could remain docked, captain. That way we could get any survivors off the station much faster. However that might be risky, we have no idea of what caused this incident to occur."

Looking at the captain she continued.

"This is your ship, captain. Therefore I will leave that choice to you.

In the meantime, could you tell me something about this interference? Like when it started maybe?"

The captain looked pensive a moment and Zane used that to cut in.

"The mine has a landing platform with an airlock for personnel, and a loading bay for cargo ships picking up production. They are next to one another so it makes no large difference which one is used, though if you want to use the loading bay, you need to wear a space suit."

"I will keep the ship docked, but we will activate the emergency release at the first sign of trouble" the captain noted "And we will do the docking manually." he decided.

"The interference is what started this emergency in the first place. Most of the miners here have somewhat regular contact with one another - we're a community, so to speak.

So when we lost contact, the first rescue operation was mounted, just as a check-up. At that point we still considered it might just be a radio glitch or something.

When they did not return, the second one went in expecting trouble. And now us. Here's hoping three times a charm."

The captain took a moment to give orders to his crew. It wouldn't be long before they'd be ready to dock with the station.

If you have any further questions or plans, be sure to raise them in the next post as ice and weather serving, I'll be docking you with the station then ^_^

"Very well." Kial replied to the captain.

She paused a moment to think. Whatever was going on, it seemed to Kial it was unlikely to be a few pirates. If it had been the second rescue team should have been able to handle it. The jamming concerned her though.

"Once Padawan Arvini and I have boarded the station, you should focus on the safety of your ship and your crew. We can handle ourselves."

Kial waited to see if Avitus had anything to add and then started to prep herself to board the station.

"We will surely find the rescue teams and the crew members and find the source of this problem!" Padawan Avitus stated confidently.

"As we don't have any space suits, we will have to enter through the airlock, presumably the same as the rescue teams did. We should stay on guard as we enter."

Padawan Kial had already mentioned the captain should keep safe, he did not mean to belabour that point.

The captain gave instructions as the ship approached the XR-17-E mining operation.

"Take her in manually - and be careful." the latter part wasn't really a necessary order, but the captain seemed to feel more comfortable reminding the pilot. Zane meanwhile walked the Jedi back to the airlock.

Slowly but steadily, the maneuvering thrusters guided the ship towards the station, positioning just a few feet away before extending the docking port and locking on to the entrance.

A psssh could be heard as the airlock itself was pressurized and Zane opened the door for Kial and Avitus with a bit of a bow for flair.

Ahead lay the entryway into the mining facility. The hall had been cut directly into the stone with a mining laser, and a metal walkway had been put in place to serve as more convenient flooring than the somewhat irregular stone and to allow heavier equipment to be rolled. The light was somewhat dimmed, though that wasn't unusual in facilities like these.

A convenient sign by the entrance pointed out which way to go for the supply depot, living area, security station and ore processing facility - the locations where a visitor might go under normal circumstances.

"Be careful in there blue girl!" Zane noted. "And good luck!"

"Acknowledged." Kial stated, seemingly distant as she started to walk into the station. Then she looked back over her shoulder. "You too."

She was focused on the tasks at hand:

- Finding any and all survivors.

- Finding out what's causing the communication jamming and disable it.

- If possible retrieve it.

- Salvage the station if possible.

"Let's keep our eyes peeled." As she moved into the station, she looked for a computer terminal.

Avitus offered a final goodbye salute to Zane and walked the entrance walkway behind Kial.

Avitus would also scan for any still functioning computer terminals whilst telling Kial "We should head to the security station first, that might have some way to monitor the rest of the station for activity."

The two Padawan carefully made their way into the station, its dimly lit hallways cut out into the stone of the asteroid. The security station was not far away, allowing visitors to check in with security no doubt. However, the scene there was anything but a friendly welcome.

The door to the security station had been lifted off its hinges, and the inside was a mess, several of the panels having been destroyed, cracks in various monitors and small sparks flying off of one of security system control panels. Clearly something had happened here.

Inspecting the room more closely, Kial recognized an open container as an empty weapons locker. Possibly to store weapons of visitors? As Jedi, they'd not normally give up their lightsabers, and it seemed redundant to follow protocols like that now regardless.

Despite the state of disarray, the Padawans were in luck though - one of the security terminals had escaped whatever had happened here and was still intact, its monitor undamaged save for some dust and smudging.

I have scheduled my next reply for next Monday. When using the security terminal, please list what type of information you are looking for. I'll be sure to include anything else useful you might find

As Kial moved to access the terminal she asked:

"Can you keep an eye out while I access the terminal, Arvini?"

The first thing she checked was the stations status. Making sure the power and life-support were running properly and getting some idea of the layout of the station.

She looked up the stations logs for both security and regular operations, since just before contact was first lost. She looked them over for any anomalies. Any unscheduled visitors, ships or halts in operations.

I have the Systems Operator skill if necessary

"Sure thing, I'll keep watch. You probably get this terminal thing better anyways. Does that thing track where everyone on the station is right now? Or who is using what?"

Avitus would walk by the empty weapons locker to see if there were any weapon-shaped dust stains inside that would indicate weapons had been stored and taken in the past weeks.

While doing that Avitus would keep an eye out for any movements, or people trying to sneak up on them around the security station.

Kial's skills as a systems operator helped her gain access to the basic status of the station - unfortunately, she had no ability in slicing, so she couldn't access some of the more advanced security features the terminal offered. Regardless, she was able to find out some pertinent details:

First off, the stations power system was working perfectly fine - in fact, it was producing more power than normal, providing some 112% of the normal output. According to the information, this was well within the capacity of the power system.

Secondly, she found that life support was operating at barebone level - this was the level where it did all necessary tasks such as oxygen scrubbing and gravity assistance but non-essential tasks like water filtration were turned off. Water was instead drawn from the stored supply of clean drinking water. This was normally done to save energy when other more mission critical operations required the power.

She could also see that the mining and ore processing systems were still operating normally, though no details were available without security access. The logs she could find listed no unscheduled visitors or ships, though she did find an entry that a security alert had been activated some time before the first rescue attempt - right about the time that contact had been lost. Unfortunately, this was a "generic alert" and did not provide specifics.

Avitus meanwhile inspected the weapons locker. There were indeed a few dust stains to indicate weapons had been stored there for a longer duration. By now though, they had been taken out, possibly in response to the security alert?

The Antrean Padawan also kept an eye out for any movement, though for the moment it appeared as if they were alone.

"Why would they turn off non-essential life support but run the power core at one twelve percent?" Kial muttered to herself.

Then a realisation dawned on her.

"Blast."

Her fingers started to dance across the console rapidly. She was looking for a map of the station. In particular the fastest way to the power core.

"Arvini, is there a map of the station in here? We need to get to the power core A S A P. I think someone is trying to overload it to cover up whatever is happening here. We need to shut it down."

Kials voice was a little frantic as she looked for the map.

Kial looked through the system, but the terminal was unable to offer a map of the facility. The terminal didn't seem to use these for the functioned it offered at the current access level.

Fortunately, she was in luck - there was a stack of plastic cards not too far from the terminal which each had a generic map printed on the plastic - these were no doubt intended for visitors to help them get oriented. The cards could be clicked to highlight the route to the different parts of the station and it soon revealed the route to the power core.

The route to the power core led through the ore processing area. They'd have to go there first and move on to the power core from there. Between the map and the sign they saw pointing towards the ore processing area, it wouldn't be hard to find the way there.

"Turning off life support is suspicious, and I guess you know systems. If you think it's important, we should go check out the power core. Can't you shut it down from here?"

Picking up on Kials franticness, Avitus took one of the little map cards, clicking on the power core and starting to walk at a fast pace in the direction indicated, though slow enough to be aware of the surroundings.

"The core has been on for days like this right? We probably have some amount of time."

"I've already been on one destroyed space station in this system. I'd prefer that number doesn't go up. So I'd rather hurry and have time to spare."

Kial stated, as she followed Avitus. Also keeping an eye on her surroundings.

"Besides we can check the ore processing area en route.

Following the route they had found, the two heroes soon arrived at the ore processing area. It was a large hollowed out section of the asteroid, the size of several football fields, ten stories high or so.

The padawans entered near the top of the area on a metal platform with a somewhat flimsy looking guard rail and a ladder on their left leading down. From here, they were looking out over the ore processing machines, and the hot air from the machines operations hit their faces as soon as they entered, and the reddish light from molten rock below made it clear why it was so warm here.

The ore processing machines themselves were a complex network of automatically operated machines connected by conveyor belts and narrow walkways. From the left side of the area, stones were brought in, which were sorted in a filter system that sounded like a permanent earth quake was going on, before being moved into grinders and melting ovens. There were several flows of molten stone and metal being transferred to other machines, though their purpose was unclear from up here. Amongst the machines, several droids were moving about, seemingly still at work as they had not noticed the Jedi yet.

One notable feature was a trail of red running along one of the walkways - it might just be spilled paint, but it sure seemed like someone had dragged a bleeding person along the ground there.

Kial hesitated.

On the one hand she needed to continue towards the power core to shut it down. On the other, if the trail was blood, whomever it belonged to was in need of help and likely needed it sooner rather then later.

Of course, they could split up but that had its own risks.

"Should we split up? Whomever made this trail could need help fast, but if the power core goes critical, we all die. However, it's a risk to split up with no means of communication." She said to Avitus.

"Two crews got lost on this space station, and now someone might have been killed, let's not split up. This one guy is clearly bleeding heavily, we've got to help him. That power core will be okay for another few minutes. Let's see where this trail goes!"

If no further objections came from Kial, then Avitus would move towards the trail of red, to take a quick closer look and then try to follow one of its directions.

Avitus led the way down towards the trail of red. The closer they got, the louder the sound of the ore processors, the clanging of metal and hissing of steam drowning out most other sounds. Finally, they made their way to the walkway - the trail was definitely blood.

Following the walkway, the heroes soon found the corpse of what looked like a worker, partially hidden behind a crate. The human male was wearing coveralls and a hard hat, and had several puncture wounds on his body, as if someone had impaled him on a sharp object multiple times.

Neither of them had medical expertise, but it was clear from the injuries that some sort of sharp implement had been used to kill him.

Below them, the droids continued their work on the metal, unaware of the Jedi above it seemed.

"Nasty way to go. Slow, painful." Kial said as she made sure the man was lying on his back and closed his eyes.

"Rest now, son of man. Find peace in the Void."

She was quiet for a moment, then she was back to business.

"This is strange. Why kill him in such a crude, primitive way? Why drag him here? It's barbaric. I don't believe any soldier or pirate would do this."

The last sentence was directed at Avitus.

It confused her, so much so she momentarily forgot about the jamming. Keying her comm unit to report in.

"Valian to Rustbucket. Captain Herder do you read?"

"That ain't one of the better ways to go."

Avitus stood for a moment, and made a ring sign with his hands, closed his eyes for a moment.

"Well, that had to be to hurt the fella. But nothing we can do for him at the moment. That won't work, but we still have that core going critical. Gotta take care of that first now."

And with that, Avitus would eventually walk away from the man, to head towards the area of the power core.

Kial's comm unit returned nothing but static - the interference no doubt playing a major part in that. She'd likely be able to get in contact again once she was back out the airlock, but that would mean going all the way back the way they had come.

Making their way towards the power center next, the heroes soon found more disturbing signs. Some of the hallways showed showed signs of fighting - a vending machine overturned to create cover ad partially block the hallway. It was easily climbed over, but had blaster marks on it and a wrecked production droid next to it, its head blown clean off. And some of the lighting here was out due to the damage, making it harder to see.

As they made their way past, they could hear rhythmic footsteps approaching from further down the hallway in the direction of the power center. Footsteps that were coming closer.

The moment she heard the static Kial silently reprimanded herself for forgetting the interference.

When she saw the signs of combat, she was back to normal.

"Sloppy, inefficient. I think we can rule out a military strike."

When she heard the footsteps she grabbed her lightsaber, leaving it off but ready.

"Sounds like we have company. Want to meet them halfway?" She asked of Avitus.

The footsteps continued to come closer, and it soon became apparent that these weren't the sounds of boots hitting the metal grates of the flooring. Rather they were metal.

The first thought was armor, but the perfect rhythm suggested perhaps something else: droids.

Soon the Jedi noticed a large robotic creature coming around the corner. It looked like a mining droid of some type, though it had bloodspatters on its chasis and it clearly shouldn't be here - mining droids would normally be digging into the wall or delivering its harvest to a processing area, not walking around the walkways and corridors designed for humans.

"That thing has bloodspatters everywhere and it looks dangerous. I'm not taking any chances!"

And with that note, Avitus would take out and start up his light saber, circling to the right side of the mining droid.

"I'll take the right side, you the left?"

If the mining droid kept coming onto them, and without reprimand from Kial, then Avitus would start work on disabling the mining droid by trying to take out vital looking pieces with his lightsaber.

Kial was used to droids, as they where widely used in the UPT, and aside from the blood spatter it didn't look too dangerous to her.

"Lets not jump to violence to fast, Arvini. And if we do need to defend ourselves, limit yourself to its limbs. It may be able to give us some valuable information."

As the droid came closer she called out to it in a commanding voice.

"Droid, halt! State: identity, directive and orders."

If the droid ignored her she would proceed to its left side, activate her lightsaber and try to cut of its limbs.

"BIOLOGICAL DETECTED! KILL, KILL, KILL!"

The mining droid's drills activated as soon as it noticed the two Jedi, moving in to attack, rushing forward towards the Jedi, aiming it's drills at Avitus and Kial and attacking both at the same time!

The Droids body was almost as wide as the hallway, making it difficult to pass besides it.

OOC: Combat is started!

You are in a narrow hallway, but it is wide enough for both of you to attack / defend. No other conditions apply.

As per our Combat Rules, you should both make a post describing your characters actions and goals in the combat, as well as you Final Combat Rating (based on your combat styles and any conditions that may apply). Once this is done, I will post the combat rating and actions of the other combatants, as well as the outcome of the fight.

Striving to defeat the mining robot without taking any injuries, Avitus took his lightsaber up in a defensive stance as he aimed to start systematically dismantling the mining droid, slashing off parts until well past the point it stopped moving.

Avitus would attempt to damage and destroy the mining droid in cooperation with Kial, while preparing to retreat should it prove far too great a challenge.

Kials stance loosened up. Her left hand behind her back. Her lightsaber, in her right, pointing straight at the droid. She waited as the droid came towards them.

Suddenly Kial shot forward. Staying low and swift, she went for the droids limbs. Attempting to cut them off.

My apologies for the unacceptably late reply

Kial and Avitus were trained Jedi Padawan with a clear goal: remove the limbs of the mining droid. As it turned out, lightsabers were exceptionally well suited for the task, cutting through the mining droids limbs like a hot knife through butter.

The droid had several drills, but each time one got close to one of the Padawan, it dropped clean off of the chasis as the actuators leading up to it were sliced through.

Mining Droid:

Metal Chasis: +6🛡

Extra Mining Drills: +4🗡

Soon, the droid was nothing but a set of disconnected limbs and a metal frame, which was unable to do anything other than yelling "KILL, KILL, KILL!" - a quick stab at the speaker disabled even that.

With the droid taken out, the path towards the power center was now clear, though the droid also appeared to have an access port - it might be possible to look at its command codes and see why it acted in this aggressive manner...

There is no "generic" computers that can de everything, but the access port of the droid has been designed to allow easy diagnostic, so your basic datapad would fit and allow you to do diagnostics as supported by the droids systems. I will allow it, though we may want to revisit the can's and can'ts of such devices in the future

Kial looked at the droid with disinterest. Then she noticed the access port.

"Let's have look inside your system, shall we?"

She pulled a small computer pad out of her pocket. Plugging it into the access port, she started looking for any thing that looked out of place.

Though she was by no means an expert in droid programming, she at least thought she could notice any reprogramming that would make the mining droid go berserk.

As stated earlier I have the Systems Operator skill.

"Ahh good, you know how them droids work. Well, lets found out what drove it and then shut down that power core."

Meanwhile Avitus stood around, taking a look at some uninteresting objects till Kial finished inspecting the mining droid.

Kial hooked up her datapad to the droid to access its systems, peering into its systems.

While she wasn't an expert on droid systems, so she had to do a bit of searching, but as a System Operator, she was able to make some sense of what was going on.

First off, it seemed that most was in order, but then she noticed an important discrepancy: the company logo was wrong and didn't match the one on the droid's hardware. This wasn't the original operating system!

Looking further, Kial was able to determine that someone, for some reason, had wiped the droids operating system and had exchanged it with a similar system not originally intended for this droid.

There was a good reason why a droid would have a non-original operating system: these droids were "semi-legally refurbished". Stolen droids, as well as those salvaged from unreputable locations were given new operating systems to allow them to be used without worrying about such things as licensing fees, registration procedures or safety protocols.

It allowed companies to get mining droids at low low prices, at the cost of them having basically zero security against slicing.

But there was one more interesting detail: the system had no "kill" instruction. In fact, even with the new operating system, all it should be doing was mining resources.

Looking closer at the log, Kial was able to determine why it had attacked regardless: the droid was being remote controlled. And the connection was originating from the power center.

"Seems like whomever owns this station has some disreputable business partners."

She noted the droids OS manufacturer, OS version and the droids hardware manufacturer. Then disconnected her terminal. Once back on Unity she would relay the information to the UPT. Knowing they would look in to the possible connection with pirates or smugglers. The tracking and elimination of which the UPT spent a great deal of time and resources on.

"The droid was being controlled from the power core. So we can kill two birds with one stone. Let's double time it."

The two Jedi rushed through the hallways to the power station. As they got closer, they noticed damage on various parts of the building - there had been a fire, but the stations automatic fire suppression system had taken care of it.

The final set of doors leading into the power station opened to reveal a site of some carnage - several dead bodies in worker uniforms lay around the control area, seemingly shot by blaster fire. The positions of the bodies were odd though, Kial would realize - not how you would expect them to have been arranged if someone had kicked down the door, so to speak.

The control terminals of the power station all appeared to be operational, and no alarms or the likes were blaring. Actually, besides the fact that there were corpses and bloodsplatters all over the place, this might be a perfectly normal control room...

One other thing was off though, as a voice greeted the Jedi when they entered.

"BIOLOGICAL ENTITY DETECTED IN POWER CONTROL CENTER." it announced "KILL, KILL, KILL!".

Fortunately, there did not seem to be any droid in the room, and the command was coming from the central computer. Kial, being a system operator, would know that the central computer could not be remotely controlled, so that signal was coming directly from the computer itself.

She also soon realized why the bodies were arranged so oddly - an automated defense turret came down from the ceiling, blood splatters of when it mowed down the workers still on the chassis. As it came down, the turret began to spin up to open fire at the Jedi!

(( This is not a combat, but you may want to take action to deal with the turret regardless. And my apologies for the long, long, long delay between posts ))

Kial grabbed her lightsaber as fast as she could and activated it. She would have jumped for cover, had her feet not been rooted where she stood.

It wasn't the carnage or fear. It was anger. Anger at herself for failing to protect these people from a damned computer system.

Her jaw clenched. Her breath quickening. She shot forward towards the turret. She deflected shots. Moving between whatever cover was available. Closing the distance.

Nearly at the turret, she threw her lightsaber. Giving it plenty of spin. She kept moving until she heard the turret go silent. Staying on the move if she didn't.

With a jump, Kial shot for cover as Avitus was forced to hide around the corner to keep from being shot. The turret followed the blue padawan, leaving a trail of blastermarks - but Kial was faster.

Using her lightsaber to deflect the shots she closed the distance to the turret, throwing her lightsaber and spinning it into the turret as she dove for the cover of a control panel. There were flashing lights and sparks glowing metal... but the turret had been incapacitated by the lightsaber, its gun sliced in twain by the throw, as the blade fell to the ground, bouncing once and then rolling over the floor. The turret was out.

"KILL, KILL, KILL!" the computer voice continued, but without a turret to control, it seemed impotent. Disabling the computer would likely end its angered calls - and that might be a wise idea as there were probably more remote controlled mining droids heading this way right now. It would probably be smart to disable the computer before that moment. Then again, there might be vital evidence or clues in the system...

Coming to a halt as Kial heard the turret be destroyed. She looked towards her lightsaber and extended her hand towards it. Her anger gave her a strange sense of focus as she concentrated to pull the weapon back to her hand. She didn't so much try to use the force to pull it back. She ordered it back to her hand.

Having retrieved her lightsaber, Kial paced to the computer. She activated her lightsaber. Raising it, preparing to destroy the computer..., before pausing.

She deactivated her lightsaber and clipped it back to her belt. She then proceeded to access the computer and started looking for whatever it was that made the computer go berserk. She also looked if she could shut down the stations power core. Her cold expression and harsh typing betraying her feelings hadn't died down yet.

I didn't really know how "difficult" it would be to force pull a lightsaber back with just the basic pull from the Innate Force Powers so I tried to make Kial put some effort into it. That said it seems like a fairly basic force power and a lightsaber is relatively small.

Kial used her system operator skills to shut down the stations power core as well as accessing and saving the systems logs.

Though she wasn't a slicer or programmer, she was able to tell that part of the systems code was foreign, and there was a distinct signature to that part. Later, more detailed investigation by experts would no doubt reveal the origin of the berserker program, though the fact that repurposed, possibly illegal droids had been used was likely at least in part responsible for the amount of humanoid life lost here, as it meant certain safety protocols had not been available.

As she shut down the systems power core, she could hear a call on her radio:

"Blue girl, did you do that?" it was Zane "All the external lights just went out. If that was you, I think you may have sorted the problem"

I think I'll round off the adventure here. As this concludes the mission, you both receive +5 Training Points! Additionally, the miners now have an even more positive impression of you and the Jedi, which will undoubtedly come in useful in the future.

I have created a mission page on the wiki (Berserkers) which houses the images used in the thread and where a report by one of you might be nice. If not, I can do it as well.

Finally, you are allowed to move a virtue point based on the mission. This allows you to work towards various Force Philosophies. Let me know about any move, I'm sure it can be approved!

"Affirmative, I took the stations power core off-line." Kial replied over the comm channel. "I'm sorry we've found the crew dead. Can you send some help to the power centre? I'd rather not leave the bodies here to rot."

With that she started preparing the bodies for transport. She would make sure the guy they found earlier would also be taken. The owners of the station would answer for this massacre. The evidence she recovered from the droid would help toward that end.

As Kial was an officer in the UPT Military Caste she had some influence. She would use every last bit of influence she had to make sure the owners and whomever had supplied the droids and the station would be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law.

She would also ask Colonel Streth for help in making sure this would never happen again.

I would like to transfer 1 virtue point from vengeance to righteousness. She was able to control herself and her anger at the deaths of the station crew. Choosing rather to pursue a legal course of action. Seeking justice through the system over through vengeance and trying to prevent it from happening again.

With the +5 training points I have enough to gain another training. I would like to spend it on Swift Sidestep from the Makashi combat style. I have the requirement for it.

I think the transfer from Vengeance to Righteousness is very fitting with your consideration and it is hereby approved. You don't really need approval to spend training points, but for completeness sake, that is also approved :)
