Ataru is the fourth of the seven classical lightsaber combat forms, also known as the "Way of the Hawk-Bat". It is a very swift and aggressive style, using many light blows to get past an opponents' defences. It is most useful in one-on-one battles and on open ground where there is room to manoeuvre, but it leaves the user more open to attack.

Students of the aggression form have an innate awareness of the mobility afforded by the environment. They use their mastery of the force to move around, each action and attack flowing into the next one in a smooth transition that is characteristic of Form IV. Three kinds of rotational movement, called su ma, are heavily employed by practicioners to perform multiple rapid attacks from different directions.

Weapon requirement: This style requires a lightsaber.

Ataru Stance (Padawan)

  • Strike +3๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +1๐Ÿ›ก

Su Ma Awareness (Padawan, requires Ataru Stance)

A practice that allows the Jedi to remain constantly aware of all the options of movement.

  • Strike +2๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +2๐Ÿ›ก If the combat area is, or contains, significant open space (such as a large star ship command room, a hangar, on a wide bridge, outside in a desert, sparse forest, etc.)

Jung Su Ma Deflection (Padawan, requires Su Ma Awareness)

The Jedi employs spinning movements to deflect attacks to the side.

  • Strike +1๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +3๐Ÿ›ก If there are no more than two opponents

Ton Su Ma Slash (Padawan, requires Su Ma Awareness AND Force Jump)

The Jedi performs an overhead attack as part of a somersault in the process of repositioning.

  • Strike +3๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +1๐Ÿ›ก If the combat area is a vertically open space (rooms with high ceilings, elevator shafts, large hangars, etc.)

En Su ma Traversal (Padawan, requires Su Ma Awareness AND Force Speed)

The Jedi performs a slash or sweep as part of a cartwheel or roll to another position

  • Strike +3๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +1๐Ÿ›ก If the combat area is a horizontally open space (wide corridors, rooms with low ceilings, etc.)

Ataru Adept (Knight, requires Jung Su Ma Deflect OR Ton Su Ma Slash OR En Su Ma Traversal)

  • Strike +5๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +3๐Ÿ›ก

Hawk-Bat Swoop (Knight, requires Ataru Adept)

An offensive technique intended to allow the Jedi to strike at their opponent without giving them a chance to react.

  • Strike +4๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +2๐Ÿ›ก If the combat area allows you to jump down from heights and you can go up to use these heights (by jumping, running up a stairs, climbing a ladder, using a jetpack, etc.)

Saber Swarm (Knight, requires Ataru Adept)

An offensive tactic where the Jedi uses numerous short strikes to overwhelm the opponent.

  • Strike +4๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +3๐Ÿ›ก If there are no more than two opponents
  • Strike -1๐Ÿ—ก, Defence -1๐Ÿ›ก If there are more than two opponents

Ataru Master (Master, requires Hawk-Bat Swoop OR Saber Swarm)
