Makashi is the second of the seven classical lightsaber combat forms, also known as the "Way of the Ysalamiri". Developed for the purpose of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, to address the failings of Shii-Cho, Makashi is the most dueling-centric of the seven classical forms. Relying on precision and efficiency over Shii-Cho's wild, sweeping motions, Makashi allows an initiate to defend himself against an opponent with minimal effort, while placing a heavy focus on avoiding disarmament.

Makashi is described as elegant and focused, and is based on balance and footwork to outmaneuver opponents. Fluidity and economy of motion are relied on, rather than strength, with bladework heavily utilizing jabs and light cuts rather than hack and slash movements. However, Makashi is not without its weaknesses, being ineffective against multiple opponents and failing to address the issue of blast-deflection.

Weapon requirement: This style requires a single-bladed lightsaber.

Stances and Techniques

(See also the Makashi diagram)

Fluid Footwork (Padawan, requires Makashi Riposte OR Swift Sidestep)

The duelist's footwork ensures that their positioning in the combat area is advantageous.

Duelist's Grace (Padawan, requires Makashi Riposte OR Swift Sidestep)

The duelist focuses on the distance between them and the opponent, allowing the duelist to employ subtle parries and quick jabs.

  • Strike +3๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +3๐Ÿ›ก If the combat area is effectively a narrow straight line (such as in very narrow corridors, on beams up in the air, etc.)

Makashi Adept (Knight, requires Fluid Footwork OR Duelist's Grace)

  • Strike +3๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +3๐Ÿ›ก
  • Strike +1๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +1๐Ÿ›ก If there is only a single opponent

Contentious Opportunity (Knight, requires Makashi Adept)

A tactic based upon recognizing and exploiting an opening in the opponent's defense before swiftly moving to strike the exposed enemy.

  • Strike +4๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +2๐Ÿ›ก If an opponent uses a lightsaber and knows a style at padawan level but no higher

Disarming Flourish (Knight, requires Makashi Adept)

A defensive technique where the duelist feints or distracts and immediately moves in to disarm the opponent.

  • Strike +2๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +4๐Ÿ›ก If all opponents use melee weapons

Makashi Master (Master, requires Contentious Opportunity OR Disarming Flourish)

  • Strike +5๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +5๐Ÿ›ก
  • Strike +1๐Ÿ—ก, Defence +1๐Ÿ›ก If there is only a single opponent
