Kadrai Keep

Small keep outside the city

Contained in: Urt

A new edifice now adorns the coastline outside of Duirt. Where once stood a dark and brooding tower of black and purple, now stands an airy manse of pale granite and white oak. A paved pathway winds from the main road through a stand of trees leading to the building's main entrance. A smaller side path turns off following around the towered structure towards the rear leading to an iron bound double gate suitable for wagons and horses.

From the split of the pathways, an arched walkway leads from the nearby wood spanning a 20 foot gap to the main entrance. Crossing the threshold into a large entry hall, the eye is greeted by ornate carvings, massive tapestries draped along the stone walls, and beautiful artwork framing the chamber. Through an open archway to the left is a massive living room with a stone fireplace large enough for a 7ft tall man to stand in. The room was comfortable with plush overstuffed furniture and thick warm rugs covering the hard stone floors. Plants were strategically placed throughout the room with tables for entertaining. Massive glass windows, with thick curtains pulled open during the day, overlook the forest and the water outside the keep.

A double door along the right wall of the entry hall opens into a large formal dining hall equipped with a matching massive stone fireplace to the one in the living room. A table large enough to seat 12 dominated the hall while lush thick expensive tapestries cover the walls. To the rear of the dining hall, a single door leads into the keep’s large kitchen. It is equipped to accommodate meal preparation for a dozen people but capable of serving greater numbers for festive occasions.

To the rear of the entry hall stands a heavy thick door leading to a covered court housing a forge moved out of the cellar of the original tower. The floors here are also shaped from matching sturdy granite and left bare to avoid fire from the sparks of hammer blows on glowing iron as well as the heat of the forge fire itself in the center of the area. The smithy encompassing the forge hearth is large and open to a modest inner courtyard suitable for exercising their mounts or providing other exercises and entertainments. Beyond the smithy at the rear of the exercise courtyard are stables adequate for four horses, with full tack, harness, and barding, closing off the back of the keep while to the right of the smithy is found a supply area for the forge, well stocked and prepared for Maryk’s weapon crafting or other blacksmithing as needed. Opposite the storage area and enclosing the far side of the exercise courtyard are servants’ quarters suitable for up to five people to reside comfortably.

Back within the main entry hall between the open archway on the left and the heavy door to the rear, spiral stair cases of grey granite leading upward as well as down. The ascending staircase leads to the second level where the bedchambers are located while the other staircase descends into an enchanter’s laboratory and study where Anjal tends to her arcane enchanting business.

The landing at the top of the stairs opens into a lovely and more intimate seating area. Once again the furniture is plush and comfortable in rich shades of golds and browns while a large window dominates the room and fills it with welcome sunlight. A couple of couches, and a few high backed chairs allows the option to choose who to sit by. Highly polished dark cherry wood low tables can be moved in front of the couches, while the chairs have foot stools to match. Four doors spaced around the family room open onto three bedroom suites (with their own private fireplace and privy) along with Anjal’s personal office used for her bookkeeping job for when she brings work home from the Dunes. Through the master bedroom suite, an additional room was designed containing a large, ornate, and heated bathing chamber with shelves for exotic soaps and shampoos as well as racks for large plush overstuffed soft towels.
