Frost Roadhouse

Former tavern and inn of House Frost

Contained in: Frostville

A former tavern and inn about an hour outside the city, and base of operation for House Frost, the Roadhouse was destroyed during The Siege. The house is looking to rebuild it at some point.

History

The Frost Roadhouse was owned and controlled by Floom Frost, and later by Zephyra Lai.

The complex consists of the main building along with a smithy, a small garrison containing Frost guards, kennels (for Floom's dogs), and a shed containing tools and the carriage. The rest of the grounds consist of the courtyard, where the pool is, lawns, gardens of flowers and vegetables, an orchard as well as pens containing chickens and pigs.

At long last Floom has completed his Family House which is located close to the Roadhouse itself. The family now lives in a big house made of stone and contains a large living room with chairs and a big table. Cooking is done over the hearth. The ground floor has a separate study with room for a limited number of books, and it hosts a wooden writing desk.

Upstairs there is a master bedroom with a bed large enough for two, and a spacey closet for clothes. A separate privy area with a bath can also be found on the upper floor. The big house has a cellar which can be used for storage. And a private room for the children to sleep in with the live in nanny.

The main building itself is now three stories after Floom paid large sums of gold to add the new floor with 12 new rooms, consisting of accommodations for guests on the top levels whereas the main inn/performing area contains most of the bottom area. The main hall has the kitchen/bar along the left side with tables and chairs in the middle. A raised area is used as the performing area at the far end and rooms off that are used for storage and changing rooms. The room above the stage is reserved for storing anything that can be raised/lowered to the stage. Other, larger, props - such as Kat's display water tank, are in the side room so they can be wheeled on.

Access to the courtyard is through the double doors on the right. There, guests can lounge outside, with their refreshments around the pool. Off to one side is the barbecue pit and beyond the courtyard is where the flowers are grown.

The pool itself is circular, 50ft in diameter and ten foot deep in the center. It is made of concentric steps, that go around most of the pool except for a six foot gap at the far end where Kat performs her 'Leap of Faith' escape. There are three steps, one shallow enough for halflings to stand and humans to sit (2ft), the next one is 5ft deep before dropping to the ten foot center.

The Smithy has a Blacksmith and an apprentice whom work hard to keep the local guard equipped with weapons and armor as well as repairing such items. Due to the heat produced by the large forge few people go here when not needing something done.

At the Kennels can be heard barking of canines, many of them the Litter of Ruff and Sia; Floom and Katrina's famed War-Dogs. A trainer here can train canines and other animals to the specifications of the customers.

A Shrine to Raya-Thu dominates a small area where the faithful can go to be in the presence of their Goddess. The shrine hosts a Priestess and two Clerics which offer spiritual aid when needed.

A new building has finally been completed, the Frost Stables; This stable has hay on the floor, but the ground is stone. The stables are lined with fresh hay, and each horse has access to its own water supply. The troughs are all made of stone, and there’s even a small fireplace in here to keep things warm in the winter. A stable requires the employment of a groom .This place can hold up to six Large steeds at a time, each in their own stall.

Floom can usually be found, when not working, at his usual table in the bar, watching over the proceedings. Kat can be found, either at the same table, although when not performing, she also helps out behind the bar or serving tables with the rest of the staff when things get busy.

Many of Kat's acts have been adapted from her days in the circus and she added a few new ones. Apart from standard dances/tumbles, she also performs the following in the evenings.

Dancing with her hands tied behind her back - and escaping partway through the dance. Rani has also duoed with her or done her own version.

Dressed as a fairy, 'flies' between ropes and doing a rope dance during which her feet doesn't touch the ground during the performance

Swims in the display tank as the 'Little Pink Mermaid'. Does aquatic dances and sometimes spends much of the evening inside the tank as part of the background, although, for a while Rani took up that role or joins her mother as the 'Little Blue Mermaid'.

Does an escape from a water filled tank, tied hand and foot and weighed down with the top of the tank locked. Again, sometimes Rani would join her with a double act or perform her own version of the stunt. She has to escape from ropes, weights, and the tank while holding her breath. Her 'Leap of Faith' escape is similar except she's also wrapped up in chain and has to extricate herself while at the bottom of the pool. This is her favorite stunt and the one she used at the circus.

Not far from the circus many Gnomish homes have sprung up almost literally overnight. For a long time had people heard Gnomes were coming but here they were in force. Floom had last year agreed to allow them to Homestead at Frostville and allow them to live in happiness with Ambassador Kalitra Domir

In the afternoon, she does storytime with the local children (including her own), either dressed as the little green fairy or the little pink mermaid.

Other performers are paid for their time upon the stage, except for 'Amateur Night' when anyone can try their hand at performing - and take their chances with the audience.

A handful of cats have taken up residence in the Roadhouse, rarely desiring to go outside except to catch the occasional mouse to leave on one permanent resident's doorstep. They love people, and have little hesitation in jumping up in people's laps to beg some purr-inducing lovin's.
