Murder of a Child

No tags

In the Market District, and certainly in the Maze, there was speak of a murdered child in the Golden Lion this evening. Many people witnessed as a small halfling child, Abigail as she is known to the people of the streets, struck down by a magic missile by none other than Magudhalia Elwyn. Many people witnesses Abigail cutting the nobles purse, and the Noble retaliate with a blast of magic towards the child. No warning was given. No attempt to pursue or stop a simple thief.. just cold blooded murder. There was an uproar in the Maze.. The Noble had done nothing but fuel the fire that Father was building.. Now, they had their matyr.

The people of the Maze gathered around the body of the child. Wailing could be heard from the all way in the Central District, and around. They gripped at the cloth holding the cooling body of the child, wailing for justice. Wailing for revenge!! People of the street started to riot

(( More to come in the morning of the aftermath ))

Melody was outraged by this.

"There was no need for that" she was heard to say. "I implore every mage to add the Merciful Attribute to their attack spells or refrain from using them unless against obvious monsters. I am SO appalled that someone would strike down a child with lethal force,"

"Plus other spells could have been used. Hold Person for instance. Or Colour Spray ... or Sleep. All of those are non-lethal options."

Milo paced for a long time stewing with anger, when he made his way to the Market he posted a Bill on the Bulletin Board.

The Murder of an Innocent Child is appalling. There is no reason to resort to this kind of behavior on such an innocent. I call on House Elwyn to Banish and Remove Lady Magudhalia Elwyn's Title and Privilege's for no less than a Year and Day. This type of behavior is never allowed and should be punished to the fullest extent of the Law.

Sir Milo Frost.

Overnight, you hear the scream and chanting as the people of the Maze began to outpour into the Market Street, and other portions of the city. At first, it was peaceful enough. Then, one person decided to SMASH the window to a tea store. That was when the violence started. Cries of equality, and cries out outrage began to fill the street. Torches we're thrown into buildings. The City Watch we're fighting to keep peace on the streets. The people of high end stature we're swarmed by the impoverished. But they couldn't keep complete order. Banners with poor scrawled images of the child we're held in her honor. Diurt was starting to burn. All fueled by the death of a child. People we're trampled from both sides of the coin. Bodies of the dead, or the hurt filled the street in the morning as the light rose. Even still, these riots continued. Father had won. All due to the poor decision of a single person killing the wrong target.*

* He would stand vigil outside of his store in the maze, watching the riot go on. He looked down below to the people rioting. No emotion in his eyes, he merely drank his tea and watched on. When he noticed that the riot was turning for the worse, he started to board up his windows and door to his shop. *

* He would make a statement on what happened and his own thoughts* I believe there had to be a reason for what happened, but the death of a child is ... * he gave a pause to think* immeasurable to the grief and pain it will give our community. There should be a punishment worthy of the crime.

*Selis the tomboy warrior mage was heard chatting the riots up with some other scrappy mages in the Dead Dog.*

"Yahnno, I usually really don't sweat most kinds of violence. Because, come on, the world isn't perfect, right? Shit happens. But. . .murdering a child? A HALFLING child? Because it was hungry, and needed money to eat? Yeah. Screw that. . . .don't mess with kids! Hope that bitch gets her head chopped off."

*shakes his head at word of the riots* A child? Seriously? Where was the danger in that? .... at least the court found me mostly justified...there's no excusing that.

Given how fast this has accelerated....I think it's really time to ramp up the investigation of him and his cult so we can put this to rest. We haven't even finished fixing the city from the horde yet and we're tearing each other apart.

*goes to find Soveliss and get more information on those bed time stories he told his son about killing Mother.*

(( Northus had already confirmed that Soveliss had passed some tall tales down to Sami. Sami is looking to "interview" his father and find out more reliable info about how to stop this being. ))

Dracina...the daughter of Beluvial was present...front and center...having seen the ENTIRE thing. She talked to Lady Elwyn and saw absolutely NO remorse in her Im afraid I do not concur with Sir Milo Frost...I believe the only way to settle this...and see justice...is a head for a head. I call for the Magistrate to put her to death. Yes...I a noble...am calling for the death penalty for ANOTHER noble.

When one deprives the world of a fresh spark...a fresh life...they are required to replace that life with that of their own. Cutpurses and pick pocketing is not a crime worthy of death. So yes...I call for the death sentence. she turns and makes her way away

As Mistress of the House Lady Shaylara steps forth..dressed in a emerald green nobles gown complete with white lace collar and matching jewelry of pearls and diamonds. She levels stoic startling green eyes on everyone <calmly> House Elwyn disavows "Magudhalia" she purposely does not use the "fmaily" name House Elwyn is not a family of child murderers...and we do not behave in this fashion of thoughtless cruelty.

We are not going to challenge the ruling of the Magistrate. We know the law in the central quarter and have no intentions of going against it or even pleading for this individual. May the laws of the District prevail... In fact...it is our suggestion that the execution be a public one as a show of good faith to the people showing unrest.. This is the only way to calm the rioters and show them that nobles can be held accountable just like commoners in districts of neutrality... and with that she turns and moves away regally

Rani is so upset about this, that she is taken to wearing the black of mourning. Not just for the death of a child, but for the deaths and destruction yet to come.

Even in the water, she wears black.

Let's get some facts straight before we pass judgment. It was said by Milo Frost that the child was innocent. Let's not forget that the child was NOT innocent, the child was a thief. Focus on the correct facts or we are seen no less manipulative in calling for harsh judgment.

That being said, I concur, the use of lethal magic upon a child is inexcusable, and to come from a mage who is known for boasting of high intelligence, it can only lead me to believe that this action was not only intentional, but also so practiced that it was considered the correct way to handle this. That is not something we want in our city after fending off one type of monster. The murder of a child from a well seasoned mage is no less monstrous than the orcs and goblins who attacked. The same fate should be granted.

I propose death by beheading, followed by an immediate cremation of the remains to be handed over to the Elwyn house to do with as they see fit. Along with a certificate of judgement with all noble houses who approve the punishment for legal records to be documented in the hall of records. That is my vote.

It was a time after most had quieted down about it, that Richter could be seen sipping from his wineskin, leaning back on his chair with his feet up on the back of the chair in front of him as he listened to the way the other nobles and high citizens of the city spoke of the situation. His eyes move from speaker to speaker until there was a lul in the conversation, when he stood, removing the long brown coat that emblazened the symbol of St. Theris on it to reveal the noble marking of House Asa, showing his name for those who didn't know he was a noble, as he has never publically announced his nobility.

"Y'all seem to have this well in hand, friends. I am not here to pass judgment upon the Elwyn-daughter who commit murder. There's nothing more I can say to that that hasn't already been said." Another swig from his wine and a slight swagger as he approches the fire of the tavern.

"Upon the victory in pushing the horde back, we enter a new age in Duirt. This age is one of change, of correction of past mistakes and above all, a chance to show that we as citizens and nobility have grown. And because of this horror that has taken place within our city walls, I urge you all to use this time to realize the pain we have in the maze. So many people there have no choice but to steal and beg for their food. So many have no choice but to steal and mug for their masters who threaten them with far worse fates than death."

For any who remain after his ramblings would see the shimmer of moisture on his cheek as he turned to face anyone who was still interested in his 'drunken ramblings'.

"Not only the nobles, but also the wealthy of the city have a duty, a duty to protect the people we commonly see as beneath us. Without them, we are no less common then we see them. Let's build a house in name of our little lost soul, and call it the turn-a-round. We can provide food, clothing, training and connections for people in the maze who truly want to better themselves. There are enough of us to train guardsmen, craftsmen, laborers. We owe it to this city and all of it's citizens to show that we can take a tragedy, no matter how grim, and turn it into a ray of hope. It won't bring the little angel back, no, but it will make her life meaningful, and not lost in true."

Richter goes back to his table and collects his things, leaving only to say softly. "Go in peace, everyone."

The inquisitor of house Demha, known brother to it's lord can be heard talking to his guardsmen.

"An Elwyn murderer? How tragic. It is said, however, that you can judge the merit of a person by how they deal with their own blood. Perhaps this will be a good chance to see how the Elwyn measure up to their nobility." He nods hearing Shaylara's words. "See? I'm not the only one who is harsh on my own blood."

Sir Bowmore, I refer to Innocent as a Child. I concur and agree that she did steal or attempt to steal. But this was a child. An Innocent by definition. She stole only for food as she was hungry. True she should have gone about it by asking for food and not stealing. But using lethal force on anyone not doing an lethal attack can not be excused. Simply grabbing the child would have brought about a form of Justice.

"I am not more than a simple common born soldier. I spent my formative years in mercenary bands traveling all over the place. Can't say as I have many things I would have refused to do growing up if the coin was right." A thoughtful expression crosses her features, looking about the tavern.

"I like this place, closest thing to home I've ever had. I arrived in the seige, saw lot of good people hurt or dead. I spent good coin where I could spare it helping as many orphans and homeless as I could, worked my fingers to bleeding trying to rebuild this place, starting in the worse off places I could find. More than a few hard days and nights in the maze specifically."

Leans over get tame some, fists clenched tightly, a glacial coldness making its its way into her voice and tone. "Some high born bitch attacks and killed some little girl, over what's likely their pocket change? Hell no. That won't be tolerated in this city, in any district, ever. I say cut the bitches head off, stuff it on a pike as an example to any other wretched creatures like that. The law -will- be upheld, common or noble, no one is above punishment."

as an afterthought "We're it up to me, I'd say have the child's mother do the deed. Might gve her some closure, knowing her child is avenged by her hand and that their spirit can rest peacefully in the pure lands."
