Class Merits

This page describes the Class Merits, a special type of merit. You -must- take one of these merits, and you may only have exactly one. Which one is your choice.

Lower Class (1 point flaw)

You were a member of the lower classes during your mortal days, either working class or middle class. You may even have been paid for your labour (*gasp*). This also includes “new money”, which did not yet manage to marry into higher status.

Some clan members may consider you of lesser worth, while others may fear that associating with you will reflect negatively upon them with those who do. The difficulty of social checks may be higher for you as a result, and you may experience negative effects of your heritage in the reactions of some NPCs.

You are styled “Mr.”, “Miss” or “Mrs.” depending on your gender and marital status and rank below all others in the order of precedence.

Gentry (free merit)

You were a member of the upper classes with no notable title during your mortal days. You might have been a second cousin to a proper noble, or your family may have held a non-peered title such as Baronet for generations or you might have been married to the holder of such a title.

Your birth will provide neither benefit nor hindrance to your dealings in the clan.

You are styled “Sir” or “Lady” depending on your gender (see forms of address) and rank above those with the lower class flaw in the order of precedence.

Special note: This merit is the default position and therefore costs no points.

Noble (1 point merit)

You were a member of the upper nobility during your mortal days, and you were in line to inherit a proper titles.

Some clan members may consider you of greater worth, while others may believe that associating with you will reflect positively upon them with those who do. The difficulty of social checks may be lower for you as a result, and you may experience positive effects of your heritage in the reactions of some NPCs.

You are styled “Sir” or “Lady” depending on your gender (see forms of address) and rank above those with the lower class or gentry merit in the order of precedence.

Titled Noble (2 point merit)

You were a member of the upper nobility during your mortal days, and you held a proper titles, which you either inherited or held as a courtesy title until inheriting a higher title.

Some clan members may consider you of greater worth, while others may believe that associating with you will reflect positively upon them with those who do. The difficulty of social checks may be lower for you as a result, and you may experience positive effects of your heritage in the reactions of some NPCs.

You are styled by your title, which may take the form of “Lord” or “Lady”, depending on your gender and rank above all others the order of precedence. There are no additional benefits.

Special: This merit is functionally identical to the Noble merit beyond the order of precedence and different style. It is up to players to decide if this is worth the extra point.
