Differences on Training

Differences between by and the current version
Training is a tricky creature. It requires a balancing of playing time as having many players makes personal training less desirable from a time management point of view, but on the other hand it can be a lot of fun to roleplay a character training. Certain powers and abilities should not be generically available and cannot be realistically discovered on your own, but at the same time, we don't want to make it exceedingly difficult to spend the hard earned XP. The rules below are intended as a compromise of these factors. In all cases, it is presumed that characters do partial training in their down time, and learn during the time they are active just by observing and doing. In most cases it is intended that players can easily spend XP the way they want to. If you feel that your character is having a lot of difficulty acquiring the training they want, please make an OOC note of it so that can be addressed - however, don't be surprised if exotic disciplines are a little harder to acquire than more common ones. //All listed training times are doubled outside of the season, due to the shorter days. Training days need to be spent in full but need not be consecutive.// * **Attributes** can be raised up to and including 5 without trainers. You do not need to allocate training time or resources but can spend the XP immediately when it is available. * **Abilities** can be raised up to and including 5 but require a trainer * This trainer is provided free of charge by Clan Angliae. You can make infinite use of ability trainers as long as you are in good standing with the clan * Training time is 1 day per point the ability (so 1 day for the first point, 2 days for the second point, etc) * You simply declare you spent a day on training, say, Athletics, and after the day you can immediately spend the XP * **Specialities** can be raised up to and including 3, and require a trainer. * You need to make IC effort to find a trainer, who may require a service for the effort * Training takes 1 day per point in the speciality (so 1 day for the first point, 2 days for the second point, etc) * Having a trainer in your social network obligates them to provide training free of charge, but you must still make the request IC and set a date * **Expertises** and **Languages** require training. * You must have the slot available for either before you can get these, but need not spend XP * You need to make IC effort to find a trainer. * Training takes 1 day per point in the associated ability (( If you have slots from multiple dots in the associated ability, you only need to spend as many days as the lowest slot that is still free. \\ \\ For example, if you have 3 dots in Linguistics, but you speak only 2 languages, learning your third language will take 2 days, while your fourth and fifth will each take 3 days )) * Having a trainer in your social network obligates them to provide training free of charge, but you must still make the request IC and set a date * **Discipline Powers**, including the starting power, must be learned from a trainer. * Trainers are experts in an entire Discipline and can provide instruction even for powers they do not themselves have access to by coaching and providing general insight. * Trainers should be found IC and may require favours for their service. * Having a trainer in your social network obligates them to provide training free of charge, but you must still make the request IC and set a date * **Rituals** require training. * Training time is 1 day for each Rank of the ritual (so 1 day for a Rank 1 ritual, 2 days for a Rank 2 ritual, etc.) * **Backgrounds** can be raised up to and including 5 and require roleplay to acquire them. * They may also be given out as rewards. Be sure to indicate what kind of backgrounds you are interested in when rewards come along * Please confer with the storyteller to arrange the required story for your backgrounds * Generation is a special case * **Virtues** can be raised up to and including 5 without trainers. You do not need to allocate training time or resources but can spend the XP immediately when it is available. This is a normal part of character development. * **Willpower** can be raised up to and including 10 without trainers. You do not need to allocate training time or resources but can spend the XP immediately when it is available. This is a normal part of character development. * **Merits and Flaws** can be changed only through quests and require active Storyteller involvement. Note: the listed training times are unrealistically short, but we fudge this abstraction as it represent skills acquired over time and the training is merely the conclusion of experience.
