Saint Alessandra is a female saint who is said to have been a leading female figure in her community. Once a nun known as Alessandra Alderton she is said to have helped countless travellers - especially women - who frequented her village as well. Demons came to tempt and attack her, attempting to destroy her good work, but she remained true to her faith and defeated the demons and drove them to flee. After her death, several miracles happened at the cave chapel where she had been buried and where a statue had been created in her image.

Her Saint Day is sometimes invoked to honour the Ecclesian women for their important role in society - on such a day, many faithful men and women give small gifts to the important women in their lives
