The World of Novus Utum
The world, referred to by some as "Novus-Utum" has two major continents on it with several medium sized Isles. The city of Duirt sits on the island of Urt, some distance from a large landmass most commonly known as the "South Voran mainland".
The name is derived from the elvish, and since 'Novus' in elven is 'New' it seems to imply that those who named it didn't originate on this world. Whether they traveled here from another place or if the world itself was remade remains a mystery, the exact origin of the name having been lost to time.
World Map
The map displays the area around Duirt and most of the known world. In the center right is the island of Urt, see also Maps for more details. It consists primarily of the nation of Eccles, though there are South Voran territories in the south of the island. The city of Duirt lies on the border between these. North of Eccles is an inhospitable area where giants live.
The larger part of South Vorus is located to the east on the landmass sometimes referred to as Zinda Ru, though more commonly the "South Voran mainland". South Vorus recently split off from North Vorus after a succession dispute. The capital cities for these, Windamere and Zandara are marked.
North of North Vorus is a wild area so most of what is there is speculation, though the area is known for its strange monsters and there are several large islands where dragons are said to reside. South of South Vorus are other area's and it is known that the cities of Ma Ta Keep and Uma Ta are located there, and that Dwarves and Orcs live in the region. As with the area north of North Vorus, there is at least some wilderness there and the exact details of societies there aren't known. Further to the east it is known that strange people live though accounts differ in what is strange about them.
To the west lie the thousand islands of the Silver Rain Republic, some inhabited, some not, many only on the coast, including the capital city of Azannia. Under the sea between the main Silverite islands and Urt, Merfolk and Aventi are said to live under water in small, often nomadic communities. The exact borders here aren't known.
Beyond the Silver Rain Republic, in the south, lie area's where elves and minotaurs are said to live. It is known there is a large city called Locleigh there and either a city, or a region here is called Quaeralis, though that name has also been used to refer to the landmass as a whole. The exact details here aren't known, though it is known that other races than elves and minotaurs live here too.
Further north on that landmass are the steppes, where a different people live. Their exact customs and culture isn't known, but there is a city of Sosuvah which is said to be quite rich. Beyond that lie the Apostates, an area where Ecclesia was spread in the past, but which has since become separated from the Ecclesian core, developing in a different direction. The entire area was excommunicated some generations ago. It is known to house a major city called Firtlit. Beyond that it is said there is wilderness.
OOC: Some names and area's on the map are marked with a ? - this indicates that the information that can be learned about the area is incomplete or inconsistent, different experts and explorers giving conflicting reports, though the names and description below here indicate what is commonly accepted.
Heavens
The world is encircled by two moons and a sun, one moon being rather large in the sky and said to be responsible for the tides, while the other, smaller one is further out, but big enough to show a small disk. Strangely enough, it is the smaller moon that seems to control magical influences on the planet including outbreaks of lycanthropy.
Scholars also recognize six wanderers amongst the stars, the first being only visible in early twilight or late dawn and always near the sun, the second - known as the morning or evening star being quite bright. The third is a blueish or greenish wanderer, and the next is a bright object which through a spyglass shows a ring, with striped markings and five smaller companions. The fifth is a fainter world, also ringed and with one - or possibly two companions. The final one can only be seen if one knows where to look and has often been mistaken for a static star. It looks blue/green through a spyglass.
