Damage Report from the Siege

No tags

With the siege battle now over a week ago, the city has finally had time to do a damage report.

The most obvious damage is the collapse of part of the city wall, in particular on the Ecclesian side of the city. Whatever event set off the collapse, it was anything but subtle, and in places only a pile of rubble remains while in others, parts of towers are left standing.

Repairs are already under way with wooden palisades being constructed as a temporary defensive structure until the wall can be repaired properly.

The city walls weren't the only part of the city collapsing, as part of the central quarter, in particular in the maze, also collapsed, revealing part of the undercity. Duirt being at sea level, most of it is flooded, but the old constructions from the era of the Duirt empire are, where possible, being used as temporary housing.

The most severe damage is actually to the cities bridges though, making travel to and from the Central Quarter - and between Quarters - a bit of a hassle, especially for cargo, and the bridges that still work are busy both by day and by night, with waiting for crossing in either direction. Some of the central quarter gates were also destroyed and in shambles with a makeshift gate being installed.

The cities ports also took some major hits, with the port authority building being destroyed, the docks damaged and in need of repair and the home fleet - that is, the ships that are normally based in Duirt - having suffered painful losses or damage.

The fires that raged in certain parts of the city have finally been put out, but a lot of homes were damaged by them - or the rampaging giants - leaving a lot of people in somewhat dire straights. The city taverns, including the Golden Lion, Dead Dog and many others, are filled well beyond capacity as a result, and the Churches are filled with citizens and refugees.

Frostville didn't fare much better, with a lot of damage being dealt. It is yet to be seen what will be done, though Lord and Lady Frost are not known for giving up so easily.

The worst part though is the loss of life, as many people lost loved ones. The bodies of the dead are being gathered and identified, set up in the Necropolis for the time being until they can be taken to their proper final resting places.

The Cathedral is said to be creating a book called the "Book of the Dead", listing the names of those who died and the location they are now. Besides administering which body is where, the book is also being used by those who got separated from loved ones to find closure... or hope.

Hope is the general mood amongst the citizenry, as the city militia, adventurers and the Ecclesian crusaders cleared out the last of the orcs within the walls, though doubtlessly some pockets outside the city remain.

With the damage assessed, the next step is to decide what to do next, and the cities noble houses are hard at work disagreeing on a plan of action. No doubt we'll hear more on that soon!
