As his family argued with the Asa, as if that was going to change the Ecclisian's mind Baele had searched the ship top to bottom finding nothing of value. At least they would have the ship. On a hunch though from working with the Stripper Melody the night or two before he went up on deck and stipped off his captains coat and handed Peg, his monkey his hat while the little one also guarded his coat.
Then Baele slipped into the water sneakily and dove down to see if the Mermaid he had asked the Bull captain about earlier was alive. She was and he took the time to undo the chains from the ship. She was weak, dazed, and scared but the strength of his personality as well as the face he was taking her from her captivity she followed him docily. Getting her up to the docks he covered her with his sea coat, put on his hat and snuck her by his family. He was a captain and is allowed triple shares for his participation. Still he knew family would want to claim her and he didn't wish an argument. Leaving them the silver chain to keep or sell and the family as a whole getting the ship he took his prize to his own.
The Sirens Call had just pulled back into port from blocking the earlier ship from escape. He took the young merwoman to his cabin and left her in the care of his good wife Byrony. Then went to seek out Melody to see if she could help bring the mer girl back to health more ably then him. They spoke and he took Melody aboard his ship to give a look. After following Melody's suggestions the mer girl was soon resting under some sea water collected into a giant barrel which gave her some room to toss about on her own. He also spent time conversing not just with Melody but his wife, while rocking in a chair next to the barrel so the girl could get used to his voice. Telling her sea stories and singing some sea shanties. All the while the girl didn't flip out and get herself hurt or killed.
