Mid Level Adventures

No tags

Back on the old site, one of the issues that crept up on us over time was that established, high level characters were able to dominate adventures at the expense of new, low level characters, who often felt like they were reduced to sidekicks or at least outclassed by their peers.

On the new site, we created two solutions for this problem. The first was to drastically speed up levelling. I am happy to report that this solution has been working very well so far as the first characters have started reaching level 10, some 7 months after converting. This is actually slightly ahead of the intended time, but I feel we have a good pace going, so we do not plan to make any adjustments in the foreseeable future.

The second solution was to divide adventures into Low, Mid and High level adventures, each with a range of 3 levels.

I did not immediately jump on this when the first level 9 characters arrose because it would leave those characters unable to adventure. But with the first level 10s, I believe there is now sufficient mid level population to start this concept back up.

From now on, we will be enforcing the rule that adventures must be either Low or Mid level.

Low level adventures are intended for characters level 6, 7 and 8. If your character is higher than level 8, you CAN NOT participate in these adventures with that character.

Mid level adventures are intended for characters level 9, 10 and 11. If your character is lower than level 9, you CAN participate in these adventures, with the caveat that you implicitly accept that you run a high risk of death.

Mid level adventures provide a slightly higher experience reward (which is beneficial especially for low level characters), but the amounts have been chosen such that mid level characters still advance at a slightly lower rate (with an intended average of 9 weeks to next level instead of 6 weeks for low level characters for active players)

For details of this rule, see Adventures

Since this is not something we have done before, I will be keeping a close eye on the number of Low and Mid level adventures to ensure everyone gets a chance to play their characters. I ask everyone give this a chance and be sure to let me know if you feel there are any issues!
