Alignment Adjustments

Alignment, as in the absolute alignment axes known from the Ilfreann cosmology and morality, does not exist in the Maalum setting: characters do not have an alignment.

Since the Maalum rules do not use the default base classes, a lot of the adjustments that would need to be made for classes have been sidestepped. To guide the future adjustment of classes, spells, and monsters some guidelines have been prepared.

All classes, spells, and monsters should be adjusted for the Maalum setting as per the following guidelines. As these are guidelines, and not a adjustment algorithm, some things might bring two or more of the given guidlines into conflict. When in doubt how something should be adjusted, confer with your GM.

Class prerequisites: Remove all alignment prerequisites from the class's list of prerequisties. This guidlines applies to both base classes and prestige classes.

Class choices: Some classes have a choice of one among several options to parameterize the class. Remove all alignment-based choices from the list of valid options. If necessary, alternatives will take the place of the alignment-related choices. See also the Class Adjustments guidelines.

Creature subtypes: Creatures never have an alignment-based subtype. Furthermore, class features and spells that require picking a creature subtype do not have alignment subtypes are valid choices. If necessary, other subtypes will take the place of an alignment subtype.

Damage Reduction: Alignment-based damage reduction is mostly limited to alignment-related outsiders which do not exist. Those monsters that do have alignment-based damage reduction will have their damage reduction adjusted to match the setting.

Feat Prerequisites: If the feat interacts with alignment, it is most likely not a fitting feat for the setting. If the feat is fitting, remove all alignment prerequisites from the feat's list of prerequisites.

Item effects: Since magic items need severe reworking to be ported to the setting, there is no specific adjustment that guides the adjustment of magic items.
