The Maalum campaign uses several forms of character advancement. This page is an overview of the related rules, and links to details where useful.
Experience & Character level
Character level advancement uses an adjusted milestone-based experience system, to make it easier to get the progression speed we aim for.
A milestone is a set objective that the players—and often the characters as well in the form of missions, requests, or the legs of a long journey—know beforehand. Each milestone is worth an amount of experience points, and when the group reaches the milestone, each player will receive the experience points for that milestone.
Additionally, personal milestones can be proposed for a player's character. These work like normal milestones, with the exception that only that character receives the associated experience points.
When a character levels up be determined according to the listed experience table. Note that any line beyond 5th level is currently just a projection based on half a year of sessions per level. This table will be adjusted based on decisions made by the whole group. If this table is adjusted, we will attempt to adjust only levels that players have not yet reached.
