Each jouster is given 3 lances. The bout is over when either opponent runs out of lances, or when one of the opponents is unseated. If after 5 rounds neither condition has occurred, the one with the most points wins.
- Each jouster roles a DC 10 ride check to maintain the mount in a straight aligned approach. If the jouster fails this roll, they will be off and they receive a -10 on all further checks.
- Both jousters make a CMB check to unseat their opponent. Success means that the lance connects, netting you one point. If you exceed your opponents CMD with 5 or more, you break your lance, giving two points. If you exceed your opponents CMD with 10 or more, or score a critical success, you unseat your opponent, and win the bout.
Both steps are taking simultaneously by both participants, leading to simultaneous scoring.
