The Blindfold of Eternal Darkness is made up entirely of the light of the White Moon, the brightest moon in the Ilfreannian sky. The weaving process has captured this light, given the blindfold the appearance of a flawlessly white piece of cloth worn such as to cover the upper half of the face.
As all light is blocked by the blindfold, it is impossible for any light to come through making the wearer completely blind. Even future light is blocked, leaving the wearer blind even if the blindfold is removed.
History
Though many mages claim to have extraordinary powers to create magical items, none posses the power to weave moonlight into cloth. That power was the exclusive domain of the most powerful leaders of the Moon Fae. Using rituals lost to time, this group of exotic fey with celestial blood live and stay on the White Moon, never interfering in the affairs away from the moon, but always watching them.
When the three factions of the Moon Fae were still united, eons ago, three powerful leaders of the Moon Fae together created the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness in a mystical ritual with which they hoped to increase the power of their visions and see into the future. They agreed the one who would wear the blindfold would share all the information they gleamed from there.
However, once it had been created, none of the leaders wanted to wear the Blindfold. By agreeing to share all the insights, they had crafted a situation in which each leader would benefit more if one of the others would wear the blindfold, not having to sacrifice their own vision while still gaining access to all the insights from the future. Furthermore, observing is one of the main activities undertaken by all Moon Fae, thus further reducing the leaders willingness to wear the blindfold.
After much disagreement, the Blindfold was stored away in a hidden vault. Each leader was given a key which would together be necessary to open the vault. Only one who could get the agreement of all three sub-factions of the Moon Fae could gain access to the three keys and in turn the vault and the Blindfold, which has been patiently awaiting its first wearer since time immemorial.
That time came when Wendele Selu Helevorn Sedis came to the Moon and reunited - to some degree anyway - the fey, bringing peace to them. The blindfold was given to her as a reward, and she has worn it ever since.
Powers
The blindfold of eternal darkness has or grants the following powers:
Soul-bound Panoply
The Blindfold of Eternal Darkness has the Major Soulbound property.
OOC: The soul-bound effect is there to keep the blindfold from being used offensively.
Cleanliness and maintenance
The Blindfold of Eternal Darkness remains clean and pristine automatically. It does not need to be washed or cleaned, nor does it wear over time.
Non-magical powers
The Blindfold of Eternal Darkness is a blindfold. The wearer is immune to gaze attacks and no longer suffers from attacks which dazzle the eyes, such as the light blindness of drow. Attacks or weaknesses that rely on light but do not affect the eyes only (such as a vampires weakness to sunlight) are unaffected.
Curse of Blindness
Though it might seem obvious that a blindfold takes away the wearers sight, the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness takes it a step further:
When the blindfold is put on by a gestalt character, that characters eyes becomes permanently blinded, the eyes of the wearer bleeding for 24 hours from under the blindfold, temporarily reducing their hit points by 10% until the bleeding stops. This blindness, which remains even if the blindfold is removed and cannot be cured unless the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness is destroyed, which can be done only when it is not worn.
Once put on, the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness can only be removed voluntarily, which requires a consecutive Wish, Reality Revision and Miracle spell of a caster level no lower than 21st. The item thus cannot be stolen or accidentally lost or destroyed.
OOC: though indestructible, the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness offers no protection beyond the abilities listed. The effect merely protects the item itself and only while it is worn. Once removed, it can be destroyed as easily as any piece of cloth.
Eternal Night
The Blindfold of Eternal Darkness qualifies to fulfil the requirements of the Vow of Eternal Night.
Far Future Sight
The wearer of the Blindfold of Eternal Darkness can randomly gain insight into the future. When this happens, her eyes begin to bleed and she takes damage equal to 25-75% of her maximum hit points (DMs discretion). This damage cannot be healed for 24 hours. (( This power can be used by the DM to give hints ))
