Non-physical spellbook

The Spell Matrix is a non-physical construct made of magical energy. It has no physical form and is not normally visible to the regular senses, but it would be detectable using detect magic or similar powers. Using such methods of detection, it appears as a hand-sized orb that traces arcane diagrams through the air around the owner.
Infinite Spell Book: The Spell Matrix can store spells similar to a wizards spellbook, though unlike a regular spell book, the Spell Matrix can store a (theoretically) infinite number of spells. The Spell Matrix is initially empty and spells cannot be added to it by normal means (see below).
Because it is a mental construct, the wizard can study to prepare her spells simply by meditation, though all the normal limits including preparation time and rest limitation apply.
Capture Spells: Once per day as a spell-like ability with a casting time of one full round, the owner can open the Spell Matrix to capture a spell. Once ready, the user may then target a single spell as it is being cast as a readied action similar to counter spelling.
If successful, the user rips the spell straight out of the ether and captures it in the Spell Matrix, preventing it from taking effect (as if the spell had been successfully countered). The spell can then be released by the user (causing it to disappate in a visual display related to the spell) or retained, though the ability to capture a spell does not reset while a spell is held.
While a spell is held in the matrix, the user can attempt to add the spell pattern to the Spell Matrix. Doing so requires a ritual with material cost similar to scribing the spell in a spellbook - and requiring the same Spellcraft check.
Full Arcana: The Spell Matrix can store any arcane spell, including arcane spells not normally available to Wizard, such as spells from the Bard list. Once such a spell is stored in the Spell Matrix, it can be prepared and cast by the user as if it were a normal spell on their spell list.
This ability cannot be used to learn spells normally available to Wizards at a lower level. For example, the user cannot learn Irresistible Dance at level 6, even if it is a Bard 6 spell, as it is available on the Wizard list at level 8.
Property | Cost |
---|---|
Infinite Spell Book | 1.000 (( 100 x travelling spellbook (10 gp) )) |
Capture Spells | 6.000 (( Dispel Magic 1x/day (( 3 x 5 x 2000) / 5) )) )))))) |
Full Arcana | 4.000 (( Guesstimate; there are about 27 Bard spells that become accesible for a Wizard. This ignores Cure spells as per the setting house rules. )) |
Sum | 11.000 |
