Demetrios was educated and trained in all the skills needed to be a good politician, so that the could one day succeed his father as king of Paralia. Unfortunately when it was time to officially appoint him to that position, matters got complicated.

His mother was planning to marry Azizah, but Charditean laws dictated that she could not have a position of leadership once she was part of the household of a supernatural entity. Politicians in Paralia quickly reacted to the news by starting formal elections and splitting the backing Demetrios once had.

There is now an agreement that Demetrios will not become king, but instead will back Petros Raptis in exchange for a seat on his council and further tutelage in politics.
