Anji al-Qureshi

The ex-emperor of Sayati

Residence: Khonar
Gender: Male
Affiliation: Sayati, al-Qureshi

Anji al-Qureshi ruled as the emperor of Sayati until the empire merged with Igani, and his position become superfluous. As agreed with the new rulers, he and his retinue moved to Khonar.

As emperor Anji ruled Sayati with an iron fist, subscribing to rule through fear and intimidation. In accordance with local customs, he ascended to the throne by removing obstacles, mostly his brothers. Once ascended to the throne, he married his unwed sisters to nobleman who supported his cause.

At the time of his death, the ex-emperor supported 60 wives and roughly 250 concubines, most of which were former wives of his brothers and who are little more than hostages to keep their families in line.

Anji has sired numerous children: roughly 200 legitimate daughters (and 400 daughters with concubines or other women), and the same number of legitimate sons. Of his sons, only a few handfuls are actually alive due to scheming and infighting amongst the siblings. Roughly 132 legitimate daughters have been married off, each usually takes on a few illegitimate daughters as servants.

The 60 wives of the ex-emperor had a strong pull on politics, as they were seen as very privileged. Conflicts between wives rarely became public knowledge, but local nobles feared a visit from one of the ex-emperor's wives nearly as much as a visit from the ex-emperor himself.
