Energy sword used by the Jedi
The lightsaber is a special weapon used by the Jedi. Lightsabers consist of a plasma blade, powered by a special crystal, that is emitted from a usually metal hilt and can be shut off at will.
It is a weapon that required skill and training, and is greatly enhanced when used in conjunction with the Force. Though also used by the Sith, the lightsaber is synonymous with the Jedi, with some in the galaxy believing only Jedi can use lightsabers.
Each lightsaber is unique, and lightsabers require special knowledge and skills to create.
Lightsaber Colours
A custom amongst the Jedi is to give special meaning to the colour of a lightsaber, which in turn tells something about the user of the saber. These meanings aren't absolute, however, as some Jedi pick the colour for their saber for it's aesthetic value or personal preference.
- Blue is one of the most generic colours and is the most widely used. It stands for dedication to the Force, a conservative mindset and the protection of the weak and is sometimes associated with the Universal Force
- Green is the second most common colour. It stands for tolerance, cooperation and a connection to nature and is often used by followers of the Living Force
- Purple stands for flexibility and is often used by Jedi that like to use clever tricks and cunning misdirection.
- Yellow is the colour of knowledge and quick wits.
- Red is a controversial colour as it stands for aggression and survival of the fittest. Some Jedi Masters consider this in conflict with the Jedi Code
