The lowest rank of [[Jedi]] operatives, Jedi Padawans are assigned to a [[Jedi Knight]] or [[Jedi Master]]. Padawans are still learning, but do go on missions for the Jedi Council. Jedi Padawan are often given their first [[Lightsaber]] close after their promotion from [[initiate]].
