The Highmonians have roughly humanoid body-shape, walking on two legs, one pair of arms and one head, but beyond that they vary widely in size and though colours are generally warm (reds, browns, yellows), they can come in almost all colours depending on the subspecies. A general feature shared by all Highmonians are horns, often on their heads though sometimes extruding from their skin at various joints.

Highmonians have significant differences between their two genders, with men growing much larger, up to three meters, while women average at one and a half meters. Additionally, wings on female Highmonians often do not grow beyond a vestigial stage, limiting their mobility compared to their winged counterparts.

Highmonian carry their young inside the body for roughly nine months during which time their abdomen expands as if pregnant, but they instead lay a cluster of between three and six eggs which then take another three months to hatch.
