Approval for species: Oual

No tags

As per the Species rules, I would like to request approval for my species, the Oual.

I understand that the Oual are somewhat weird, so feel free to shoot me any questions you have.

I will continue with adding a faction page and other related things with confidence that the Oual will eventually be approved in some form or another (maybe even next week ^_^).

I fail to see how it is a hivemind from the description you provide. From what I understand the foci are technically part of the same being as the nexus. No communication between nexi is described.

I'm assuming the nexus is the "main" part of the creature. It having the brain and such. And that if the nexus dies its foci do so as well. Is this correct?

I might be overanalysing it a bit, but I am curious. I'd like to add that I don't see any immediate problems with the Oual.

Curiosity is always appreciated.

My idea is that each individual of the Oual is a hive mind. The nexus is the "main" part in the sense that it does a lot of coordination and higher social functions and steering, but not all thinking is necessarily done in the nexus. The foci can, and do, think for themselves in some sense, but mostly for baser functions such as motor control, interpretation of the senses, and positional memory.

The way I intend Oual to be is a hive mind of unequal parts. They do not form a single species-wide consciousness, but instead each "individual" is a hive mind, and they cooperate the same way most other species do: by talking to each other.

Does that make sense to you?

PS. I added a note on the "life span" of foci, see the diff.

Looks good to me.

Given that two people approved the Oual, I'm moving them to the setting namespace.

I've also looked at this and it seems fine to me!
