Some princes opt to divide the area they rule over into smaller territories, and appoint a Baron to each territory to rule it. This title is applied regardless of the gender of the local ruler, in line with the way "Prince" is used.

Note that this title is often also used informally to indicate an Anarch "ruler" with enough territory in a city. Since the Anarchs as a whole do not recognize positions of authority, this title is applied mostly by reputation.
