Polishchuk Yevgeniy (Zhenya) is a Russian national in his fifties who has lived in the United States for a very long time. A long-time KGB operative with the code name Golfball, his employment (or at least his regular payments) ceased with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Zhenya is disgusted with the New World Order and has turned to drink to medicate his suffering. Not that he was sober before the sad decline of Mother Russia, but that is not the issue. He cannot return to Russia and wishes for his status to remain covert.

Zhenya has been trained in spycraft and has been a kind of mentor figure to a younger generation of spies, including the then-mortal Markus Chemnitz. He also has some knowledge of the intelligence world, even if his access is gone and his knowledge of secret service operations is getting more out-of-date by the day.

He is not aware of the supernatural, believing that Gabbriella di Firenzi was simply one of his contacts. In truth, she used him for information just as she used many others, and has stowed away information about his whereabouts and habits, just in case.
