Some of the classes given at SIRDA:

International and Diplomatic Etiquette (I&DE)

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to Diplomacy, General Etiquette, Foreign Language
  • Credits: 6 credits (24 classes+)
  • Time Slot: Monday, 21:00

Through the study of the etiquette and customs of different cultures, students are taught how to behave and interact in national and international diplomacy. The course takes a learning-by-doing approach and includes several practical assignments for which appropriate clothing is required.

Grading: Practical Tests (40%), Homework Assignments (10%), Mid-Term Exam (10%), Final Exam (40%)

Personal Security and Defense (PS&D)

  • Pre-requisites: Approved fitness test, signed liability waiver
  • Credits: 6 credits (24 classes)
  • Professor: ?, Lindsey Barnes
  • Time Slot: Mondays, 21:00, Friday, 21:00

A series of practical workshop designed teach real-world skills to keep students safe in a variety of circumstances. Instructors will help students apply various self-defense techniques, both in solo situations and in collaboration with personal or local security.

Grading: Midterm Exam (30%) and Final Exam (70%)

Intermediate Historical Sociology (IHS)

  • Pre-requisites: Introduction to Sociology, at least 2 History electives
  • Credits: 3 credits (12 classes)

A deeper look into the origins, stages and laws of social life and social institutions and how they developed. Students will learn to understand historic social structures and customs and how these shape many modern institutions.

Grading: Written Assignment (30%), Oral Exam (70%)

Royal Studies (RS)

  • Pre-requisites: General Etiquette, Intermediate Diplomacy, at least one Legal elective
  • Credits: 6 credits (24 classes + 4 workshops)
  • Time Slot: Wednesday, 21:00 plus special workshops

A study of social and diplomatic customs surrounding royalty, and the history from which they stem. The course exames not just European but Middle Eastern, African and Asian customs and culture as it relates to their respective royal families. Course includes several workshops and guest lectures outside of the regular time slot.

Grading: Homework Assignments (20%), Workshops (20%), Final Exam (60%)

Conflict Mediation (CM)

  • Pre-requisites: General Etiquette, Principles of Diplomacy (or equivalent)
  • Credits: 3 credits (12 classes + 2 workshops)
  • Professor: ?, Isaac Franklin
  • Time Slot: Fridays, 21:00

Students explore the nature of intra- and inter-group conflicts based on the dual concern model. Studies include both theoretical understanding and roleplay workshops.

Grading: Theoretical Exam (50%) and Practical Test (50%)
