The Veil is the local name used to describe the implicit agreement between Supernaturals to keep hidden from humanity.

Old folktales tell that once upon a time, humans and supernaturals shared the world, but as humans grew more technologically advanced and thus more powerful, supernaturals found it easier to keep themselves hidden, rather than risk continuous confrontations with a foe that grew ever more dangerous and numerous, and slowly, they were forgotten.

Not all supernaturals 'get with the plan', but those quickly find themselves facing other supernaturals who want to maintain The Veil. And those who break through the custom inevitably end up facing humans who will kill them first and then figure out what kind of abomination they were facing.

Likewise, not all humans are ignorant that supernaturals walk amongst them, but those who speak out are often met with scepticism and ridicule. And those who ignore such and try to gain an advantage using supernaturals find that the very creatures they seek to control do not take too kindly to being manipulated.

Thus, an unlikely status quo has developed where supernaturals keep hidden and humans fail to notice. And rumours say that there are even greater forces that maintain The Veil.
