Player Vs. Player (PVP)

No tags

PVP Can and probably will happen here, IC for either fun, sport, or conflict. In order to keep the peace and try our best to make sure that PVP doesn't cause OOC issues, we are going to make a few guidelines that should be observed and followed to make sure that everyone has fun, no matter what the situation is. Please keep in mind that these rules, can, and may change as the chat grows and evolves into something larger and with more players. For now, these are what worked during play testing.

Leave Bad Tempers at the Door

It's hard sometimes to not get caught up in the heat of the moment, or to feel powerful when things are going your way and you're kicking a lot of arse. Please be understanding for what it's like to be on the loosing end of a conflict, and even worse, on a streak of bad rolls. Please try to not make every conflict result in a death or PC-Killing (PK), If you have a character who DOES have a tendency to not hold back and not worry about murder, we ask that you are up front with people OOCly and warn them that any conflict with your character can potentially end in death. We also ask that if the other player wishes to not be involved in PVP that may result in death, that you allow them to flee, or leave them knocked out for some reason.

This goes both ways. If you agree to be involved in PVP against a character who OOCly warns you (Or ICly) that they will not stop short of death, you are expected to take responsibility and understanding if your character is killed. Administrators and Myself can review logs so if you agree to a potential PK Scene, it will be canon.

Rule of Authority

When possible, any scene that involves confliction and PVP should have a DM present. The DM will be expected to moderate and adjudicate the scene involving PVP. If either or all characters involved agree to no deaths, the DM is permitted to intervene with anything to prevent the death from occurring. This can be guards showing up, a random attack of something, or even though you think you killed someone, someone else came in and saved them - This is after all a setting where the Elemental Genie roam and sometimes interfere with mortal events. We try to make it not lame - but we also try to be sure structure is followed. And if Death was not agreed to, death should and cannot occur.

Because of this guideline, no DM or Admin/Moderator can DM a scene involving their own character, for obvious reasons.

Be Careful with your gear

There are note sections on your sheet. Please use them to list things like How much gold you carry unless stated otherwise, Your items should not be under carried unless you keep them on you at all times. That's what the other lists are for. If you have something on your Equipment or Carried list, you will be considered to have them on you. Thus they can be stolen through PVP. It is also important to have notes listed on anything you have magically marked with your personal arcane mark, so that if something is found stolen, you can get your object back.

On this note, do not expect that you will be a master thief who steals powerful items from every player or NPC you see. It is not going to be easy. Al'Qazzharrah has a very lucrative thieves guild, and they have very strict rules on how thievery is done here. There's a reason they haven't been taken out yet - think about it.

Lastly, there is not going to be any "Wills" in the game. If you die, all of your gear does not get passed on to someone else, not your own PC, not your friend's PC, not anything of the sort. Though it is possible to buy and/or make gear for someone else, no one is going to profit off of a death - especially PVP.

Everyone AND No one is safe

What this means is you should be able to play the game without PVP if you wish, so if you enter a scene and see that PVP may occur, it is your responsibility to leave the scene as soon as you can, if someone looks to be targeting you, it is your responsibility to alert guards or remove yourself from the scene.

No one should enter a scene with the goal of killing someone you see in the scene. This means no Targeting someone specifically just because you want to take them out. Don't bully someone to try and goad them into PVP just because you want to be the big tough guy. Make it apparent that you are a horrible character and give everyone ample time to flee or leave and don't follow them into their next scene, you proved your point, let it be.

On the other side of the coin, Don't antagonize someone and exepect there to be no PVP. If you call someone out and instantly flee the scene or call "no PVP", that's considered bad form. If you lip-off to someone, and they attack you lethally, you are expected to take responsibility for your actions. As stated, Administrators and myself can look through logs, if you antagonize someone, and they attack you, you will be taking fault for that.

There are Laws

Murder inside the city is strictly prohibited, if caught causing the death of someone unlawfully there is a death penalty that a guard can carry out immediately. If found guilty without direct eye-witnessed proof, you will be banished from Al'Qazzarrah, and prohibited from reentry by magical means.

Please keep in mind, just because there are no other PCs in the room, does not always mean you're not being observed. As stated, there is a very lucrative Thieves guild who constantly watch the darkest of allyways. Just because someone seems to be alone, does not mean they are. Always expect that someone saw you commit murder. Because of this, it is the killer's responsibility to PROVE they went above and beyond reasonable doubt that they were not witnessed. You can't just appear in a room, kill someone (or more) and leave the room and say "Oh yeah, I totally scoped it out and made sure I was alone." You have to do time in staking out an area, observing it, making sure it's ripe for the picking and then plot your intensions. And you can be sure that if a murder happens somewhere, even if you get away with it, that area is going to be under severe scrutiny for a long time. consider it a lost venue.

Also keep in mind that powerful magics and divinations exist. Even if you go above and beyond the reasonable doubt, someone with divinations can probably find out what you did. There for, do not ever throw a tantrum if you are caught. Take responsibility for playing the way you play, and if someone pays to find out who murdered "X" person, and you are dealt with - that's the risk you take for being the character you are.

  • These rules can and more than likely will be changed as our playerbase grows and evolves into a working set of rules. No rule is set in stone here, and can be worked to try and let everyone have fun in a believable setting.
