Common language in Duirt

Typical Speakers: People in Duirt and the surrounding area
Language Class: Basic
Writing: Hodgepot Symbolic

Hodgepot is not a formal language, but rather developed from the interchange in the city and area of Duirt. The city borders three different nations (Eccles, South Vorus and the Silver Rain Republic), which each have their own languages. Hodgepot represents a mix of all three, borrowing words from each of these tongues as well as several others. As part of this evolution, most Hodgepot words have more than one version, each with a different origin. For example, the word 'pig' has the equivalent terms of 'hog' and 'swine'. Though subtly different these different versions stem from the different national languages and can be used interchangeably in Hodgepot, and the different words are sometimes exploited for comedic purposes.

Writing Hodgepot

The Hodgepot language has no formal written form, but rather is displayed using a combination of pictograms and a simplified alphabet of only 14 letters, expressing basic sounds. Vowels are omitted from the written language entirely so it is left for the interpreter to figure out what it means, often with the aid of small pictograms in the text.
