History
House Treny is a scholarly house first and foremost, owning the Great Library, which is said to feature every book ever written, though in reality it’s a lot less than that. Their members involve themselves little with city politics and generally focus on scholarly pursuits. House Treny has been known to show off its new inventions to the public with varying degrees of success. Rumors say however that the house is on the verge of a breakthrough that could change the world forever.
Of the South Voran houses, House Treny is the youngest and in terms of political power, possibly the weakest. This suits the house just fine as they have little in the way of great political ambitions as a general rule, being far more focused upon the art of learning. Their lack of political desire should not be confused with naivety however, the house recognizes the need for political savy and guile in order to keep the channels of learning and knowledge open for all. Even the most studious and dedicated scholar has a little diplomatic capability.
In terms of religion, the members of the house place great store in Aex and Alurt, though none of the pantheon of Vorus are ignored. Manners are considered gold and more important than displays of wealth as a rule, though on the occasions where warranted, House Treny aristocrats are more than capable of decking themselves in lavish displays of finery… though rarely to the same level as the Silverite houses.
Lord Charles Treny, at 60+ years of age, hides his true age well. Known to be a skilled swordsman, devout healer and a more than capable arcanist, he far prefers his books and studies to the necessary tasks of running the house and maintaining the barony. No one is fully sure of just how capable he is; none within the family challenge him and rare is the Treny who would not come to him when summoned.
It is known that the House has an elite force of Sorcerers, Wizards and Psions, however the 'Elite' are only dispatched to investigate house interests rather than criminal matters, having no legal authority to supersede local law enforcement. What the eye never sees is another matter… While they are all members of the house through birth, other members of the house prefer not to associate too much with them lest the eye of the Elite turns to them.
House Treny, as is well known, is a house predominantly one of intellect and wisdom. Most assume this means one of wizards and sorcerers, however bards, rogues and psions are also found in comfortable numbers. Clerics of Aex and Alurt are also present along with fighters and rangers - even scholars need defenders. Feeling the draw of the arcane, Clerics often become Mystic Theurges while Fighters and Rangers take the mantle of Eldrich Knight and Rogues become Arcane Tricksters. As with everything, this is not a hard and fast rule.
Relationships with the other South Voran Houses
Ferency\\
House Treny has more than just cordial relationships with the weakened House Ferency; more than a few intermarriages have happened between the two. The strength of magic is well recognized between the pair. However, disagreements of political power have arisen more than a few times. And yet, despite the bonds, the two have been known to disagree on more than a few matters - funding first versus research first is a common argument.
Naikl\\
House Treny and House Naikl do not often see eye to eye: the former view the latter to cruel to its scions – a damaged vessel is not as useful as one unmarred, while the latter sees the former as being weak, unprepared and overly pampered. Yet the two houses agree that order is a good thing to have established. The establishment of said order is, again, a point of contention.
Tenderfoot\\
House Tenderfoot and House Treny do not often travel in the same circles, but the meetings are always pleasant, lively and engaged with the younger members of the house enjoying the letting down of hair that House Tenderfoot representatives always seem to bring. Either that, or the House Treny scions use the visit as an excuse to misbehave.
Demha\\
House Treny and House Demha’s relationship can be summed up in a single word. Complicated. The reserved nature of House Treny contrasted with the drama inducing aspects of House Demha as well as the political power plays leave the houses with little common ground save for the use of Magic itself. Even then, the researching focus of the Treny’s tends to lead the Demha’s to roll their eyes. The Treny’s simply shake their heads at the apparent lack of desire of the Demha to delve deeper into more than just some fields and return to their studies.
Elwyn\\
House Treny and House Elwyn are cordial between each other, like with House Demha there is not a large amount of common ground between the two, however they share aspects of information that the other might find useful in a quid pro quo way. House Treny enjoys the long term view of the elven house as this allows for more uninterrupted research of magic.
