A gruesome display was found in Market Street around sunrise this morning as the severed heads of several people were set up on pikes.
Accompanying the severed heads was a written message: "Food thieves"
Though the sign did not otherwise clarify, rumours are rife on the details of what they might have done. Some tales suggest they are merchants who were charging exorbitant prices for stockpiled grain. Others guess these are workers from the Market of Tears sneaking food to slaves. And yet other rumours say it was a group of thieves trying to rob the stores of a soup kitchen in the Maze.
Whatever actually took place, the message is clear: the city authorities prefer people do not try to take food from their fellow citizens
