After the excitement of the sea battle with the whirlpool and kraken like tentacles and saughin and water elementals he wanted to just play about and work off some of that extra energy. Keeping it hidden he eyed the ring he had take off the dead Xueris captain pricing it at a lovely weekend in what was left of the red house. But instead he wanted to know what kind of man the Captain had been. Not really his reputation, but what his family thought of.
So, off he went and asking around found out who and where he had lived when he hadn't been slain but the little fishy people. He of course was around when the news of the Captains demise was given to the family. And he watched curiously as they reacted in their different ways. First in public where they got the information and then as he had slipped into their home and watched their private affairs.
As he expected most of the family wasn't as broken up or going to miss him as much as the man probably thought they might. But one did. One of the younger daughters. Cheeks red, eyes bright with shed tears. That was a reaction that he had hoped at least one of the family would have. Not just the who's going to take over the fortunes and the work and blah blah blah. If this one girl hadn't reacted with the lost love of her father, he might have just taken all he wanted from their home and kept the ring besides. To sell it all to the guild.
But this one little noble girl, caught up in the loss more than the gains. And so he slipped into her room while she had been lost in tears. Waited until her grief had helped her to sleep. And then finally he crept close to her sleeping form and gently placed the ring that had been her fathers, into her hands. So that perhaps, in the morning she might think that her dead father might have visited her, and left his ring to show his love for his loving daughter. Then quietly he slipped from both her room and the house as the shadows swallowed him completly and left him on the street a good 40' away. And on he moved, there was a great water battle to share with others for drinks and parties and tosses of dice.
