As discussed during the Town Hall meeting last week, I will be reorganizing the chat, including the DM team. Listed below is my proposal on how it will work, and I would love to hear any and all feedback so we can make adjustments before finalizing anything.
During the meeting we also talked about player groups and such, I'll get back to that as well, but I want to get the foundation right first.
Core Team
The core team of Dms will consists most likely of about two or three people, myself included. To be a member of the Core Team, you must make the following commitments:
- You run at least once a week at a specific time and day (ex. every Friday at 20:00 CET)
- You attend a DM meeting every other week
- You reserve some time each week to do sheetwork / answer player questions / etc.
Doing the math, this comes down to a commitment of approximately 10-15 hours a month, which is roughly similar to Dming a tabletop group.
How to become a member of the Core Team?
If you are interested in becoming a Core Team member, and believe you can make the listed commitment, please contact Luci.
As a Core DM, what happens if I miss an adventure?
We all understand that real life happens and can interfere. If you are unable to make an adventure, please be sure to announce it on the forum beforehand, so players are not out waiting. If possible, you can also reschedule for a different time.
Each DM meeting, we discuss what adventures have been ran. Since DM meetings are held every other week, each member of the team should have two adventures to discuss.
However, if you have not ran any adventures in this time, or if you have gone several meetings in a row with only one adventure ran each, you will be removed from the core team automatically. You can reapply after at least one month has passed.
As a Core DM, can I take a hiatus?
Of course, and you do not have to offer a reason either. Please let Luci know the start and end date of your hiatus. You will be removed from the Core team for the duration of the hiatus, and be automatically reinstated once it has passed. If you do not know the end date, you should instead step down from the core team and reapply when you are ready.
Is there a reward for Core Dms?
Core Dms are rewarded 1000 xp per adventure they run for a character of their choice, and get to decide on the Core Arch
Core Arch
The Core Arch will be a central storyline for the chat, which will be coordinated between the Dms of the Core Team. This will be a singular story with multiple related angles ran by different Core Team Dms together.
One goal here is to encourage cooperation and discussion between PCs outside of adventures, to share information and discuss plans. The Core Arch will be created by the members of the Core Team together, and not only will players be able to benefit by sharing information, some options will only be available if information is shared
The exact details of what will be the Core Arch is yet to be determined, though I have several fun ideas I'd like to try!
NPC Player
Besides the core team, there will also be an option for players to help out. In collaboration with the core team, the player can work out an NPC that they can play and use to instigate adventures they run. When the NPC is created, we’ll also agree upon the type of scenes to be ran, the limits on those scenes and the rewards associated with it.
NPC players do not have DM access to sheets. When they run, they write an adventure report, including loot given out, and Dms of the Core Team will process the paperwork.
How do I become an NPC player?
Please contact the Core Team with a request of the NPC you want to run and we’ll discuss how we can make it happen. While a bio is welcome, please do NOT send a character sheet for the NPC.
How often do NPC players have to run?
NPC players are not run at a specific frequency, nor do you have to set a specific time. You can announce beforehand, run impromptu, etc. If you have not ran your NPC for 6 months, the NPC will be retired automatically. You can contact the core team to request access to them again.
Limits on NPCs
You can only run one NPC at a time. If you grow bored of the NPC, you can retire them for a different one.
We do not allow powerful or influential NPCs (heads of houses, royalty, etc) to be player NPCs, nor can NPCs be adventurers in their own right. They may not join the adventure as a meaningful participant and may not ‘outshine’ the players by dealing with the real threat while the party handles minor details.
Additionally, NPCs may not be involved in any way whatsoever with any of your characters, nor vice versa. They cannot be family members, spouses, close friends, not-close-friends, frenemies, enemies or nemesis of your NPCs. Additionally, they cannot be current or former employers or employees of your PCs, bosses, former teachers or masters, and so on. If the NPC works for a large scale organization that you have PCs in, you have to provide a clear plan to keep them separate.
Limits on Scenes
The type of NPC you create will form the basis of the kind of scenes you can run which will be discussed with you beforehand. These limits will include the types of enemies and challenges you can pose as well as the rewards you are allowed to give. Within those limits, you otherwise have free reign.
Is there a reward for NPC players?
NPC players get 1000 xp for a character of their choice for each adventure ran. If you run regularly, the Core team may decide to involve your NPC in the Core Arch, and the limits within which you can run may be expanded.
