Bracelet of Thorns

Extra Fields

Rating: 1

Given to Elisabeth-Maria Holstein as punishment for failing to name the party responsible for her broken leg.

The bracelet is made of vines with thin sharp thorns that cut into the skin when worn, causing injury but not sufficient to constitute serious damage.

The item is also linked to the curses sent to the Duchess of Fall and the Duchess of Winter.

Powers

Linked: Once put on, the bracelet remains linked to the person wearing it. It cannot be removed, and even if it is destroyed, it reappears on the body the next time the wearer sleeps. The bracelet disappears if another takes hold of the wearer, for example if the wearer is possessed or takes on a different role.

The bracelet is also linked to two other (unknown) items, held by the Duchess of Fall and Winter respectively, and sometimes causes other negative effects based on their actions.

Hidden: Though it cannot be taken off, the bracelet hides itself from view by observers, either shifting position around the body to anywhere on the arms, legs or neck of the wearer that is covered by clothing, or transforming into the shape of a thorn band tattoo of a color and style that fits with the wearers overall appearance.

The bracelet does not show as an outline under form fitting clothing. Regardless of the incidental shape, however, the wearer experiences the bracelet of thorns in the same manner.

On occasion, the bracelet allows itself to be moved to a different part of the body by the wearer, though this appears to be subject to its random whims, sometimes remaining stubbornly stuck, sometimes being easily moved. In either case, moving it only works if the wearer isn't trying to get rid of it, so while it can be moved from one arm to the other, for example, it cannot be removed from one arm and then not added to the other.

Encouragement: Whenever the wearer fails a Courage check or acts in a cowardly or cravenly fashion, the bracelet causes one level of bashing damage to the wearer, as well as to the other cursed, which cannot be healed for 24 hours.

Grant Courage: The wearer can voluntarily spend one point of blood to reduce the difficulty of a Courage check by one. This blood must be spent before rolling.

When you used the Grant Courage ability on a successful Courage check that is required to take a particularly scary or daring action, you gain a bonus dice on the roll for the daring action.

Bold Blossom: If the wearer feeds it by brave actions, the bracelet seems to come alive and grow like a plant, though it is unclear what will happen if it eventually blossoms.
