Feature Request - On the Roller

Is it possible to add a toggle to the roller that will keep dice results separate? For example:

1d20+1d10+1d4

Output as:

d20(15), d10(4), d4(2) (Showing the Dice that rolled the result)

instead of:

21 (And separate rolls listed under the Details tab)

This feature would make it much easier for some custom systems to do their thang :)

Thank you for your time!

(I edited the thread to add the Feature tag to it, so we can quickly find your feature request later on)

That sounds useful, and is definitely something we can do!

Before we get going on it, I want to make sure I understand your request. That way we can be sure we understand the way the dice roller should behave in certain situations.

If you can help me out:

  • Do you perhaps have a link (or campaign rules wiki) where the custom dice mechanic is explained? (If you do not want to post it here, feel free to private message me the details)
  • How would you want the display for these rolls?
    • 1d10 + 1d10
    • 4d4
    • 1d20 + 2d4
    • 1d20 + 1d10 + 1d4 + 6
    • 1d20 + 2 + 1d10 + 5

If some of these rolls don't make sense in your game system, that's a good answer too because it helps us understand ^_^

The system is "Marvel Heroic RPG" by Margaret Weis. Basically you build a dice pool that can consist of multiple dice between D4 and D20, you roll them, then make a total number of 2 of them, and use one as the "Effect Die"

So for example:

I roll 2D8, 1D4, 1D12 and 1D20. The results are as follows:

D8's roll a 2 and a 5

D4 rolls a 4

D12 rolls a 6

And the D20 rolls a 13

Seeing those rolls I can decide to use the 8 that rolled a 5, The D20 that rolled a 13 for a total of 18, and call the D12 my effect dice. It works in the system to get a number and a difficulty class (The Effect Dice).

The display would basically have to show each die, and what they rolled. Even duplicate dice should be listed seperately either individually or as above "D8's rolled a 2, 5" would work, as long as it showed what each individual die value rolled.

I hope that isn't too confusing!

We're currently working out how we can best implement this. If all goes well, it should go live either next week or the week after!

You're in luck! This information is already available when you have your campaign set to the Custom game system.

The default roll mechanic is the 'Any Dice' mechanic, which does show the total, but also displays the results of every rolled dice between [ and ] in the roll results.

For example, a roll of "2d6 + 1d4" will be displayed as "11 = 2d6 [2,5] + 1d4 [4]".

(If you still get the per-dice results hidden behind a Details tab please tell us where this happens, so we can look into it --- the custom dice roll that allows you to enter any type of roll shouldn't have a details tab.)
