Changelog 2018-12-21

This week brings the rather large pre-holidays-cleanup-changelog. This week we have worked on all kinds of small (and less small) things that needed fixing or changing for a while now.

Forums

  • Forums can now be marked "read" as a whole. This helps you to keep track of the thread you really want to read, simply be marking forums you do not care about as read in a single click.
  • Threads can now be marked "unread". This helps you keep track of things you still want to reply to: after checking the thread you can mark it as unread again to remember yourself to do something with it later on.
  • Your campaign overview (the "Welcome (user)" screen at at https://rpgpad.com) now shows an unread marker if there are new things in the campaign. If you play in multiple campaigns this makes it much easier to quickly see where you have new posts you can read or, using the "mark as unread" feature, where you still have things to do.

Formatted Text

  • You can now link to headers on pages directly by adding the header to the link separated by a hash (#). This allows you to, for example, link directly to a specific section of a rules page. The in-campaign help pages on links contain more explanation on this new feature
  • We changed the formatted text syntax for headers. The Header now uses 3 or more equals signs (=), and the subheader now uses 3 or more dashes (-). This makes it easier to see the difference, and you do not need to carefully count them anymore.
  • In formatted text both superscript and subscript are now written with square brackets ([). This gets them in line with all other special tags in formatted text, such as quotes and columns.
  • Editing of lists in long text fields is improved by allowing you to create nested lists. To start a nested list tap space when on an empty list item, for example when you just pressed enter to create a new item. To "go up" a level, hit backspace at an empty list item.
  • Added a bunch of help items to the help pages. You can now look up how to write a quote, how to link to an external image, or how to write these little things: 2 .

Creating & Removing Things

  • We improved the "Create New (Thing)" buttons for wikipages, forums, threads, characters, and tags. For example, with wikipages, if you end up on a "Page does not exist" page the "Create New Page" button will now pass on the page name you were trying to visit, making it easier to quickly create a missing page.
  • The "Are you sure you want to remove (thing)." popups are now much clearer in what is going to be removed if you approve of the action. This helps to prevent accendital removals after hitting the wrong button.
  • Added "Cancel" buttons to most places where this makes sense. Many places already had cancel buttons, but some places did not yet have one because it was unclear where the cancel button should go to. We resolved this by making those cancel buttons go back to where you came from.

Other

  • Added a way to report bugs directly from any page. The report a bug button can be found in the top-left, and will help you make a quick bug report in the community forum.
  • Added a better screen for the infamous 500 - Internal Server Error. Previously this error was completed devoid of anything, now we give a more user-friendly error that explains what's going on.
  • Improved RSS feeds for forums to display actual post text for created threads and replies in threads. Previously you only saw a small text saying "create post", now you get the actual content of the post, and the RSS feed item shows the mask used for the post.
  • Vampire: the Masquerade sheet now understand that you can add your own headers to all Notes fields, and to the Disciplines, Merits & Flaws, Languages, and Health fields. When you start your field with a header (====) or subheader (----) the sheet will now automatically adapt to use our header as the field's actual header.

Bug Fixes

  • Fix Vampire: the Masquerade character sheet editing to no longer give a "Bad Gateway" error. This allows everyone to edit their vampire character sheets again.
  • Fixed the numbering of numberd lists inside other numbered lists on wiki-pages and such. The numbering used to be numerical only (1, 2, 3). Now, the topmost list is numbered numerically, the list immedite in it uses the lowercased alphabet (a, b, c), and the next one down uses roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, etc.).
  • Fixed a bug where some parts of the site did not handle international characters (such as chinese or japanese characters) very well. Right now, you can use them everywhere again, and the search will even pick up on them!
  • Fixed a bug where the text from your just-posted-post was left in the posting fields at the bottom of the thread. Now, all fields are correctly emptied. This prevents the situation where someone sees the text, thinks it is not posted yet and hits "Post reply" again.
  • Fixed a bug that created "ghost" unread threads. It was possible for the "unread" marker to remain on your forum forever if you had an unread thread that was removed. We fixed this so nobody has to suffer the "eternal unread-marker of doom". If you have marked all your forums as "read" and you still have the unread marker, let us know so we can fix it for you!
